I rubbed my right eye as I sat down in the gazebo. It was late at night and we had just come back an hour ago. I had hoped that I could rest my sore feet and go to sleep at the moment of return but instead I was told to change and go out here in the cool mountain air, walk further to the gazebo so we could discuss the day's events. My exhaustion left me in a sour mood. I did not want to deal with this. I truly wanted to be in bed, sleeping, and dreaming sweet dreams.
I crossed my arms trying to retain some of my internal heat and cast a side glance at Beta and Qu'Yda who were at the other side whispering about who-knows-what. I eyeballed them as Beta placed a hand on her protruding belly. Qu'Yda smiled, her rosy cheeks glowing. She looked genuinely happy and excited.
And I was happy for them.
Still, honestly, I didn't know how she was still looking so alert. I expected her to feel far more weary than I was. Was it a wolfblood thing? I mentally shrugged, who knows, I did not care at this point. Just simply too tired to.
My feet were worn out. Partly from standing and walking on them all day, partly from dancing, and partly from Ty'Bin stepping on them when we were dancing. Electrical cheese curds, I did not realize how heavy he was until his weight was on my toes. Nonetheless, the memory made me smile. It was a good time of jolly music. Different from what I listened to back in Vakusi but pleasent.
No more than an hour had passed from me finding out the traitor when a couple Betas and Alphas pulled out some instruments and started showing off their musical skills. First everyone began howling which left me in an awkward spot but I was very grateful when it turned into a tango of sorts. Ty'Bin and I did our best to replicate most of what the others did but it usually left our arms tangled, our toes smashed and our bellies sore from laughter.
Stifling a yawn, I noticed the rest of the party coming. Namely, Alpha M’est’r, Ty’Bin, and two Etas. One of them was the same one that rescued me from the rain.
Ty'Bin sat down next to me and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. I turned and smiled at him, appreciating the warmth that came off of him. The Etas did not enter into the gazebo. One stood near the entryway and the other walked over to the other side. They were both well within earshot and looking our way so I assumed that they were still a part of the discussion while still on duty.
Most everyone had taken off the formal clothes and donned casual outfits. Simple pants and shirts, yet they all looked fine, none of them looked to be battling the cold breeze.
Alpha M’est’r was off to the side, sitting on the railing. He clapped his hands. “Alright, let's get a rundown of the day. Qu'Yda, why don't you start.”
Qu'Yda turned to face us. “It started out fine. Nu Vae'Lee was set in a corner away from attention but Luna Ten'Hah called-”
Alpha M’est’r snorted. “Luna Ten'Hah. She never gets enough attention.”
Qu'Yda dipped her head and continued, “She noticed Nu Vae'Lee and called her out. Requesting that she entertain them, meaning herself and Luna Le'Ney.”
Alpha M’est’r raised an eyebrow and looked momentarily my way. “How'd that go?”
Qu'Yda seemed to be looking for the right words. “Um… not too well. Nu Vae'Lee respectfully shut their conversation down, so they saw it upon themselves to seek vengeance.”
Ty'Bin stifled a laugh. “You told Luna Ten'Hah to stop talking?”
“What else was I supposed to do? She wanted me to validate horrible things about Qu'Yda and confirm that I was secretly Alpha's mistress.”
Ty'Bin's smile fell. I felt a rumble from his chest. “Impish women.”
Alpha M’est’r sighed, “Impish they are but there's no reasoning with her. And she certainly does not take well to being confronted. What was her mode of vengeance?”
“She locked Nu Vae'Lee out in the rain.”
I could tell that this upset Ty’Bin, by the way he pulled his one arm closer around me.
“Continue.” Alpha M’est’r told Qu'Yda.”
“They got back to talking and I learned that Luna Le'Ney's daughter was just declared mateless a few months prior and she hoped to get her together with Próta Epsilon Ty'Bin so that their name would not be disgraced. So,I let it be known publicly that Nu Vae'Lee was actually Ty'Bin's mate. They were very surprised and moved quickly to rectify the situation. They let her in from outside.”
I leaned forward, “I was completely soaked and my make-up was ruined.”
“So Luna Le'Ney offered her personal Omega to clean Nu Vae'Lee up and she made it back in time for the mingling. Needless to say, No one bothered her for the remainder of the tea time.”
Alpha M’est’r simply nodded. “Alright, do you believe that there were any suspicions towards Nu Vae'Lee?”
“No, nie.” Qu'Yda looked my way and a knowing look went between us. I knew that she was thinking of Esmedeed. No doubt that she knew that Esmedeed knew. “Do you have anything you would like to add?” She asked me.
“I…” the attention moved my way, I swallowed hard and looked down at my hands. “Um..the Omega that redid my make-up was someone I knew. She… was the human that came across the border with me.”
There was a heavy silence in the air.
“Do you believe that she would pose a threat to your identity?” Beta finally asked.
I shook my head.
“Then we should leave it at that.”
Alpha M’est’r looked at me, “What did you conclude in the mingling?”
I looked at Ty'Bin and he took the note, “She believes it is Beta Pad'Fal.”
I expected a reaction from Alpha M’est’r but he remained stoic.
Beta thumbed his chin. “He has quite a large influence in Wos’Theon and more than that he commands the second strongest force. The FlatRock Pack is ruthless. If he's the traitor then dealing with him will be no small task.”
“Is this the pack with the rogue attack?” I asked.
“No, but it is a neighboring pack to that pack. Not a very nice pack either.”
Alpha M’est’r looked at me point blank, forcing me to look down. “You sure?”
“Yes, nie.”
Alpha M’est’r stood up from the railing. “Let's leave it at this. Further discussion will occur at the pack. We leave first thing in the morning. But for now does anyone want to add to this? Anything else I should know?”
I timidly raised my hand.
“Yes, Nu Vae'Lee?”
“Beta Pad'Fal… um…he… may have recognized me.”
Alpha M’est’r's eyes turned dark. “Then we must act quick.”
