The four of them sat by the trickling stream after they were done with their lunch. Ty’Bin was able to eat with them and afterwards invited all of them to the creek. Vae'En and Duo’Lae were looking for crawdads under the rocks and inside the little burrows. Vae'Lee sat on a large stone with her bare toes in the water. Ty'Bin was crouching on the embankment on the other side of the stream. The sun shone through the canopy of leaves, providing a comfortable warmth in the wooded shade.
Ty'Bin spotted a movement in the water. With careful eyes he looked closer and spotted the front snips of a crawdad. “I see one under this rock!” He called out to the girls. They squealed and rushed over with their jars and little nets.
He looked over to Vae'Lee who was smiling at the children's happiness. Seeing him looking at her, a blush rose to her cheeks and she pretended to be busy studying a nearby plant, touching the leaves with her small fingers. Ty'Bin held back a chuckle although he himself felt a little awkward. He never thought he'd have this type of relationship and now that he did, he did not know how to act. No doubt it would take a few years to get out of the singleness mindset.
They had made a vow and now they belonged to each other, so seeing Vae'Lee now, he felt a certain freedom to just admire her. See the soft curve of her cheeks, the tender way she held herself, and to look at her lips and wonder… Ty'Bin stood up and crossed the stream via stepping stones. This was a perfect opportunity to get to know his mate more and ask silly questions. He sat next to her. “So, what is your favorite color?”
Vae'Lee moved her dark, murky purple eyes his way. She tipped her head, “I like blue.”
Ty'Bin nodded thoughtfully.
“What about you?” she tossed the question back at him.
He shrugged, “I used to like blue but I am thinking purple is my favorite now.”
Vae'Lee snorted while smiling. “There's nothing pretty about my eyes.”
“Care to debate?”
“I have a feeling I'd lose.”
Ty'Bin chuckled, “That's because you would.”
Vae'Lee laughed. “Okay, wise guy.”
With a broad smile, Ty'Bin moved to another question. “What's a hobby that you enjoy?”
Vae'Lee lifted her head to think. “I used to enjoy jigsaw puzzles.”
The judge hummed.
“Do you have any in this pack?”
“We may have a few, it's not a game common in Wos’Theon. I don't think.”
Vae'Lee wiggled her toes on the water. “Frontlegion seems to be popular.”
“It is.”
She turned to him, “Do you have any hobbies?”
“Care to take a guess?”
“Hmmm, reading?”
Ty'Bin chuckled, “Bullseye, and running.”
Vae'Lee leaned forward, “I could use some tips, Wey’Don says I am slower than a slug with arthritis.”
The judge laughed heartily.
Vae'Lee turned to face him, “I have a question too.”
“What's that?”
“Could you tell me about the people here. There are so many that I don't really know. Just yesterday I found out that Qu'Yda, Duo’Lae's aunt, is mates with the Beta. And then there are so many others I have just made up names for because I just don't know.”
