I woke up the next morning feeling somewhat energized. The sense of impending doom was gone and so were the tremors. After getting dressed and freshening up in the bathroom, I walked out to the sitting room and nearly straight away, I noticed a note laying on the coffee table. Assuming it was for me, I picked it up and read:
I have returned in the night.
I am with Alpha M’est’r,
And will see you when
discussions are done.
I look forward to spending
time with you again.
With love, Ty'Bin.
The note made me smile and somewhat giddy. I was now almost willing to admit that I had a crush…
Almost.
Holding the note close I walked over to the kitchenette and opened the mini fridge. There were three pre-made parfaits sitting in there. My smile widened, wow he even…
I closed the fridge, deciding I would wait until the girls woke up so we could share the yogurt delights together.
The clock in the room ticked a quarter to seven. The girls would likely be asleep for another half hour or so.
We would need spoons, and I did not know where they were. In fact, I had no idea where anything was. Taking initiative, I moved to familiarize myself with this kitchenette. Opening the drawers and cupboards to memorize where the pans and kitchen equipment were. Drawer after drawer and cupboard after cupboard, I looked and could not find the spoons. I stood in the middle of the room, scratching my head. Was there some sort of hidden compartment or something?
Then, a knock on the door had me looking up. I knew it wasn't Ty'Bin. He'd just walk in. In part, I wondered if it was Ty’Mee. I neared the door and paused. A quick glance at the girl's bedroom door told me they were still in the room. Daring to, I closed my eyes and allowed the slight hum, the prickling in my veins to spread. My hearing and my scent began to strengthen. I could hear the soft breathing of two young ones to my left, and in front of me was a more controlled, steady breathing. A strong heart beat ticked. Setting my hearing aside, I focused on the scent. Just beyond the door, I immediately detected sweat, yet there was no stressing odor with it. It was calm, collected, and moderately stale. The innate smell of the person seemed to be mixed with fresh air. This person had just spent a fair amount of time outside.
Releasing myself from the meld, I opened my eyes. Wondering if I would ever be able to recognize someone by their scent. Grabbing the handle, I opened the door, and there stood Wey’Don. He opened his mouth, but I quickly shushed him. “The girls are still sleeping.” I explained.
He nodded and then helped himself into the room without invitation. “You be coming up with so many excuses not to train, Vae'Lee.”
I frowned as he walked toward the kitchenette. “It's not an excuse. It's a way of life. You don't expect me to leave the girls here alone, do you?”
Wey’Don opened the fridge while still looking at me. “Well, yeah. They will be safe in this packhouse. Either that or you can wake them earlier and bring them with you.”
I placed my hands on my hips as he inspected the contents of the fridge.
“Wey’Don, do you really expect these girls to just sit and watch me train for three hours?”
Wey’Don stood straight, holding a parfait and wearing a ‘don't be silly’ expression. “Of course not. They would train alongside you.”
My expression was flatlined. “You think eight year-olds can train for three hours?”
“Easy-peasy. Hey, where are the spoons at?”
I began walking toward the kitchenette, “This kitchen does not seem to have any, which is probably good for now because that's my parfait.”
