I woke up to golden, warm rays shining on my face. Hmm, this feels so nice. I feel so nice. This bed feels so comfy and there's hardly any pain. I think that I shall sleep here forever.
“Come here and look at this.” A preppy female voice cut through my gleeful silence. Oh, knuckle sandwiches. I frowned, If only people would leave me alone. I beckoned the blissful sleep to come back.
“I knew that humans were more susceptible to diseases and defects, but I didn’t realize that they could be… this bad.”
Wait, is this woman talking to me or about me? Who is calling me bad?
I opened my eyes and found everything blurry. What? I blinked ferociously, but my vision was still the same. I could hardly make sense of the disfigured and disproportionate shapes.
“Is this a contact?” Hem’Lar’s familiar, deep voice calmed me down a little. He probably can explain this all to me.
“Yes it is. I sent the other one to Iota. She was quite baffled at the strength of it. A baffling +7.00 on both sides!”
“Is that bad?” Hem’Lar asked confusingly. It was no surprise that a non-medical personnel would have no clue what human eye prescription measurements were.
“Nie! She is almost as blind as a bat!” The woman started walking toward me, so I shut my eyes. They were not much help anyway. “The contacts were getting old and her eyes were irritated. She had them on for too long, so I requested that Iota get some glasses made for her.”
I have glasses already, it is at the skills training. On my nightstand, to be exact. I probably just could request it sent. Glasses are too expensive, I paid a whooping $250 for the ones I have. And the receptionist at the office insisted that it was cheap.
“And that is only a small part of her issues.”
Thanks for that compliment. I know that I have issues, but you don’t need to worry about it because I deal with it. You all didn’t even know about my so-called bat-like blindness.
“Go on theta (lead doctor)…” Hem’Lar skeptically pushed.
“You will not believe this.” The doctor er... theta? was sounding a little too stoked for my comfort. Like a kid with a lollipop. “We had done a series of x-rays and a few ultrasounds. She has scars all over her body. And evidence that she broke many bones before.”
Hey, kids break bones. It's life. But this lady already knows too much. Commander Tevit always stressed that we should never let them know our physical wellbeing.
Someone touched my ear, I snapped my eyes open and grabbed the doctor’s hand. “AHHHHaha! Oh my! You scared me!”
There was a form of a woman leaning over me. The only thing that I could make sense of was that she was wearing a white lab coat and had black hair.
I tried to focus my eyes, but still, everything was a blurred mess. I could see two distorted figures standing relatively close to the bed. I figured one to be the woman who took my sight away and then tried to rob my ear, too. The other to be Hem’Lar. Hem'Lar began walking in my direction. The closer he got, the blurrier he was. Blast this farsightedness. “Hey! How are you doing?”
I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear and started to sit up a little. Propping myself on my left elbow. I wanted answers to upteen thousand questions that I had but could only manage to ask the least important one. "Is this a wolf hospital?”
Of course, this is a wolf hospital! Why would they have a human hospital when there are no humans around? ...Maybe I can be the founder of the first human hospital in all of Wos’Theon!
