“What does it do?” Alpha M’est’r asked when I presented the tube of blue liquid to him.
“My informant said it takes away the wolf in a wolfblood.” My voice was quiet, in part I still did not believe the capabilities of the serum to be true.
The stark stillness that captured the aura seemed so suffocating. It now was as if everyone was afraid that merely breathing wrong could shatter the tube in my hand and affect us all with its ugly curse.
Too bad we were all in the back of a bouncy truck. If it would shatter anywhere, it would be here.
I sat on Ty'Bin's lap as he refused to let me go and Alpha M’est’r sat across the way. None of the he-wolves actually needed to take the truck but it became necessary to talk about what had occurred in Vakusi. I related everything to the Alpha. From what Commander Tevit did to how Joinervetti was jumping the gun due to his confusion about me, and then also about the ‘secret weapon’ Bal’Tiq had given to me.
Alpha M’est’r looked at the tube, there was no fear in his eyes, none, but the stone coldness of his iries told me he knew what Joinervetti was capable of.
This vial that I held onto only exposed a minor part of the wackiness that Joinervetti was willing to enact. Robbing wolfbloods of their wolves, it seemed impossible, yet if it was true, it was without doubt that, that is how Joinervetti wanted to conquer and make the world under his submission. If only he and a few select people could shift then he would have so much power.
“What do you want us to do?” An Eta asked, apparently the stillness was too much for him.
“Nobody touches it.” The firm words were nearly enough to make me throw the tube far away from me. Perhaps chuck it out of the moving vehicle. “Nu Vae'Lee, you are tasked to take it to Theta Ty'Mee. Instruct her to see if she can study its effects and if possible, cure up a remedy.”
My heart tweaked with pain at the thought of seeing Ty'Mee. Our relationship had never been reestablished since her brother and I made vows. I looked at the tube in my hands and sighed. It was probably good, though. Forcing us to reconcile, but even if we did not, I could be cordial for the sake of the pack and I knew she would be too.
I looked at Ty'Bin as he offered an encouraging half smile and I readily accepted it.
“I can double everyone's training.” Hem’Lar inserted his thoughts.
“No.” Alpha M’est’r turned him down. “The men are already very well trained. Have everyone make weapons and armory.”
“Weapons and armory?” The confused Zeta wanted clarification.
“Yes. If Jon’Rvet's weapon works then we will no longer be able to rely on our wolves for effective fighting. I am aware that we have a small stash of guns, swords, knifes, and bullets from recruits who have breached the border. We will utilize those but I want the men to make bows and arrows. The more we can eliminate before they reach us the longer our abilities will last.”
“Yes, nie. I will get on it right away.”
"Good, and also, organize send your fastest to all our allies. We need their fighting Zetas and Etas, and preferably Thetas as well, here stat."
"Very good." Hem’Lar stood up in the moving vehicle and easily hopped out the back. With grace he landed and then with a smooth shift to the grey wolf he darted for the packhouse.
Alpha M’est’r placed his elbows on his knees as he seemed to be in deep thought. “Ty'Bin, you will arrange for the woman and children to go up to Vir’Keyia, to the MoonDust Pack. We will need to strategize the best that we can. With Jon’Rvet coming prematurely we have that to our advantage so let's plan accordingly.”
