Play Date I

Living in an island for the sake of being a covert operative in a militaristic organization was as stressful as it simply sounded. It was a stark contrast to what Sage had become used to before she was recruited into the VALORANT Protocol. In order to save the world they call their home, she was left with no choice but to forsake the vows she once faithfully committed herself to keep during her time at the monastery.

Refraining from killing was probably the first oath she broke.

When she was deployed for her first operation upon recruitment, Sage was part of a four-man team led by Viper. The scientist, along with Sova and Cypher, were sent out to recover one of Viper's old projects from her previous workplace. They received intel from a reliable source that the people of Kingdom Corporation had plans on spreading a deadly toxin and performing illegal test trials on the locals of a small town in hopes to see the lethality of the poison.

Initially, Sage was never supposed to be a part of the group that would handle the matter, but Brimstone insisted that she accompanied the three as a safety precaution. Sage never found anything wrong in lending them her gift of healing, but what she didn't expect that day was the killing she resorted to for the sake of saving a comrade.

One thing led to another after a miscalculation of their plans of intercepting, and not only did it cause nearly all of them to be temporarily separated from one another, but it also thrust Sage into a predicament that she didn't wish to be in. An armed unit, standing right before a bruised and bleeding Viper, bearing not a single second thought from the motion of shooting the doctor for dead.

And so, Sage blinked, a trigger was pulled.

Viper remained alive and breathing, a forsaken vow of a former monk being the price for such.

Though Sage never found an ounce of satisfaction or amusement from shooting and killing all those that dared to hurt her friends, she had come to fully accept that it was a macabre necessity in this profession.

The next sacred promise she betrayed came in a pair. Becoming one of the senior agents of the Protocol meant Sage was put in a relatively superior role among the others, her position being in the same level as Cypher and Viper, a level just one rank below from Brimstone's. This also meant most of the members flocked to her when it came to their eagerness in participating in a mission, her warm and approachable personality making her more favourable to speak with rather than Brimstone or any other senior agents under his command.

Sage was relatively surprised with herself when she easily lied about how perilous the mission would be at the time when Jett and the other younger operatives asked her if they could join in on the mentioned field assignment. When she tackled the operation by assisting Cypher in swiping a hard drive from an entirely oblivious Kingdom employee they covertly ambushed at some cozy, little shop, Sage once again surprised herself with how effortlessly she disowned two vows in a single day.

Lies and thievery.

At that point, Sage thought that those three renounced pledges would be an endless cycle. She conditioned her mind that such was unavoidable, so when it kept happening, the surprise didn't come as strong as it used to compared to the first.

As Sage went on ahead and strove to be the VALORANT agent their organization needed, she also convinced herself that she was capable of keeping the last two remaining vows. Not because she still had hope of returning to the monastery she grew up in and once again practice the ways she was taught, but more on the idea of showing at least a little bit of respect to the roots of her belief.

The two prevailing vows involved her promise to never let herself be voluntarily intoxicated by any form of substance that could cloud the mind, let it be alcohol or drugs, and the other oath pertained to her completely abstaining from any form of sexual activities.
