I let out a drag of smoke.

"You two have been together for the longest," Bert said, chuckling. "When are you gonna propose or somethin'? You two make a very cute couple."

I shook my head. "Yeah, about that," I started. "We... actually broke up last week. He's moving out in a couple of days with Mikes."

"Oh? You two looked cute together; always happy, always smiling, you two never really argued. What happened?" He asked as he put out his own to light another cigarette.

I glanced at the ash tray. "I don't know, it just... came out of the blue, y'know?"

"How so?"

"One day, he was smiling. He was happy; the next, he was just the worst that he's ever been in a while. Heck, he was as bad as before in high school," I mumbled. "I didn't know what happened to him. He tried to wave it off, but I would always notice."

"Then the next day, he'd blame me for not saying anything. Even though I did, but I don't blame him. He can think what he wants to think." I said as I tapped the ash off of my cigarette.

He blew out a puff of smoke as he replied. "He's always been like that, huh? Frank's always been somewhat of... a bipolar type, I guess?"

"Well he wasn't, he was only depressed." I said. "That's what he was diagnosed with, anyways."

"I feel bad for the kid," He stated with a frown. "Having to go through something like that. It's not right, y'know?"

I nodded and blew out more smoke. "It's just... lately he confessed of having an affair, and for the right reasons, too. I understand that it was an accident, getting forced into it like that. But sometimes I just don't understand why he had to break it off because of some silly affair."

"Maybe it's because he liked the other person more and lied to you all this time?" He said. "Maybe he wanted to be with someone else rather than be stuck down and even risk getting proposed to. Maybe he understood the risks of being married."

I shrugged. "He didn't like being chained down, that I know for sure. He likes his freedom, just like I do. I guess he just got paranoid and thought that as I was maturing, I wanted to settle down with him."

"Maybe it was for an entirely different reason." He shrugged.

"Who knows, until he tells me why, will we ever know." I replied.

"Maybe you should apologize anyways, dude," Bert said. "I hate to break it to you, but he probably hates you just because you never said it up front that you forgive him. Apologize to him, and say that you forgive him. Sound good?"

"He's moving anyways," I mumbled as I took in a drag. "There's nothing I can do. He already has a few things there."

"Trust me, if he loves you that much, then he will cancel everything just for you." He said. "I'm cheering on for you, man."

Quickly whipping out my phone, I looked for his contact and clicked call. It took a few rings before he answered. "Yeah, I got my other stuff here. Did I forget anything?"

"Frank, this isn't actually about the uh, you moving, I guess," I said. "I'm here to apologize."

"What for?" He said. "If you're talking about the affair, I should be the one apologizing-"

"No, I'm sorry for not saying it up front that I forgive you. I'm sorry for letting you figure it out yourself right after this was all over, but honestly, I love you too much to let you go." I sighed. "You do whatever you want to do, but I'll always be heads over heels for you."

There was a moment of silence before he said in a quiet voice, "Just like high school, right?"

"Yeah. Just like high school." I said, even smiling to myself. "I'm just sorry for everything this had happened, even if I didn't do anything. I'm just- sorry."

"I am, too..." Frank muttered. "I'll... I'll get back to you, okay?"

"Yeah, okay." I said.

"I love you," He said.

"I love you too," I said with a grin on my face.

When we hang up, Bert turned to me and smiled. "I see things are back to normal, eh?"

"Thanks Bert," I said. "I could fucking kiss you right now- just, oh my god..."

"You're very welcome," He replied. "Call me, 'Bert the Relationship Fixer.'"

"Fine then, 'Bert the Relationship Fixer.' What's step two of all this, then?" I asked.

He chuckled. "You're gonna have to propose to him soon, then. If he's okay with it."

I took in a drag of smoke.
