Author's Note. Hi! I know it's been so long since I've posted something here. But it always takes me forever to complete a long-term work. This was actually inspired by a text story I read on Tumblr, but I put my own twist on it (hope that's okay). Anyway, I hope you guys like it. Thank you for reading ^ ^

Before you met Na Jaemin, your world was covered in gray clouds and sudden showers. If you were lucky, a few rays of sunlight would manage to break through on some days. Yet the weather changed when you met him.

It was your third year of college, a gentle spring day when cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Their pink petals drifted softly across the campus breeze, as you had just walked out of your cognitive psychology class. Usually, you would head straight back to your apartment and complete your homework in solace. But perhaps the day was just too beautiful to ignore— that coaxed you into taking a slight detour on the way.

There was a little coffee shop just a few blocks from your place. Although the establishment seemed quite popular, you had yet to check it out. Thus, you pushed open the door after a light exhale and were instantly enveloped by the warm, inviting scent of coffee and cinnamon.

Behind the counter stood a boy with broad shoulders and tousled black hair. His back was turned to you as he was laughing at something his co-worker had said. Not wanting to interrupt, you lingered quietly, nervously scanning the menu from a distance— already feeling overwhelmed by the countless options.

"First time at Café 7 Dream?"

The voice pulled you from your thoughts. You looked away from the menu to find the boy now standing directly in front of you. In that moment, you were certain his eyes were the most beautiful you'd ever seen. Your gaze dropped to the name tag pinned to his dark blue apron— Jaemin.

Realizing that you were the person he was talking to, you nodded sheepishly in response.

"Um— yeah, it is. Do you have any recommendations?"

He smiled, a little too warmly for a stranger. "A lot of people like our iced matcha latte— but I have a feeling you'll like it even more."

"I'll get that then," you said, doing your best to ignore the heat rushing to your cheeks. There was no way the cute barista was trying to flirt with you.

But when you returned a few minutes later to pick up your drink, a slice of strawberry cream cake sat beside it—delicately placed, as if waiting just for you.

You glanced up at him, puzzled. "I'm sorry, I don't think I ordered this."

"It's on the house," he said smoothly. "Trust me, it goes really well with the matcha."

A part of you almost laughed—this kind of interaction was entirely new to you. Still, you accepted the unexpected treat with a cautious smile and murmured a thank you. From your seat in the corner of the café, as you sipped your warm drink and tasted the sweet, airy cake, you could feel his gaze lingering. Not intrusive, not unsettling—just warm and kind.

Of course, you were aware of how cliché your beginning with him was. Yet in your memory, that first encounter marked the day someone brought a bit of light into your gloomy world.
