Mid-afternoon sunlight flooded the quad, saturating a vibrance in the crisp grass. Every cloud sat in its perfectly assigned place across the clear blue sky. The unexpected brightness brought a liveliness to the air that had been missing since early November. But the glorious weather of today was an afterthought, buried beneath a backlog of something or someone else.

Seated peacefully on a blue, floral-patterned blanket, you spectated the chaos of your friends playing foot volleyball. It was quite amusing to witness Mark being aggravated by Donghyuck's frequent calls for re-dos, and how focused Jeno was on scoring for his team. Meanwhile, Jisung and Renjun were stuck alternating as mediators referees.

However, the player that truly held your attention was Jaemin, who seemed to have left his competitive pills at home today. You watched him whiff a relatively easy kick, the ball barely bouncing off the toe of his sneaker. His laugh was cheerful and melodic, a comical contrast to Jeno's exasperated face-palm. While his athletic side wasn't very obvious in his lazy performance, the hard-earned results of his gym routine proved otherwise. His denim jacket had been discarded after the first round, leaving you to sigh dreamily at the sight of him in a simple white tank top.

"Earth to (Y/n)!" Chenle's voice rang in your ears, pulling you out of your brief daze.

You'd been a little surprised when he chose to sit out on the game, but the male had claimed that he was wiped out from basketball practice in the morning. So he opted to chill with you on the sidelines and joke about how bad the guys were playing.

"Huh?" you blinked, finally turning your head toward him.

A mischievous glint danced in his eyes. "Ah, no wonder you haven't heard a thing I just said. You're too busy checking out Na Jaemin."

"I was not checking him out!" You coughed, heat rushing to your cheeks. The boy only laughed at the glare you shot him, even as you hugged your knees tighter to your chest. "I was just... observing the in-group and out-group dynamics."

"Okay, Ms. Psychology major," Chenle teased, not sounding very convinced.

He followed your gaze to where Jaemin was stretching, while Mark and Haechan bickered over whether they should swap teams or not. "Honestly, I can't blame you for staring. Do you see the way his deltoid pops? The dude is a monster."

That sliver of validation allowed the tension in you to ease a little, your embarrassment giving way to genuine awe. "Right? I still can't get over it. I don't know how he balances med school and maintaining a physique like that."
