ADRIAN
It didn't take too long to explain everything to Elder Frank. I told him everything I could remember. What the beta had asked Kenna, to Alpha James gripping her neck to get what he wanted.
Elder Frank stared now, letting my words hit him. Once they did, he sighed. "I guessed he had stolen the design."
I frowned. "What does this have to do with the design?"
Elder Frank looked at me and then to the others while he spoke. "For the last few years, there had been rumours about Alpha James's pack. Not good things. Money being spent on high-ranking members. Luxury things appearing when the pack had been suffering. Deaths of pack members without explanation."
"You think they run a bad pack or something," my brother asked, which made me tense at his words.
"That would explain a lot," Rafe grumbled, close by. His anger flared when he listened to what Elder Frank what was going on within the pack. How could they treat their pack members like that? The news made Rafe have his back up.
Not saying anything to him, I watched the elder for a moment till he spoke again. "Yeah, we do." He sighed and looked toward Alpha Maddox for a moment, then spoke again and this time his voice went hard. "We had people come from visiting the packs, giving us detailed information of what they heard and what they saw. On the surface, nothing but good for show when no one was watching. But when some went into the shadows to see, that's when they saw everything unfold."
Elder Frank moved up in his chair. "The elders came together when we received word from the pack that they needed a loan, something that could help with pack finances. When packs are issued a loan, we always ask for financial records and what we received was the limit of nothing. Nothing proving they needed a loan... Some of the elders, when it was brought to their attention thought sending a mole into the pack would help and figure out what was happening, which was what we did."
"You sent in a mole," I asked, cocking my head to the side. "How did you pull that one off? To get someone into the pack, who was from yours."
"We needed answers and answers that the pack would never give us." Elder Frank looked at me, his face hardening slightly before he continued. "We had to make our mole lower rank and that part helped. Once she was placed inside, she got close quickly with some of the higher rank members and we learned more."
"What did SHE do?" The question came out forcibly before I could stop myself.
"Photocopying records that we were never given," he said, ignoring the irritation in my voice. "Once we found everything and realised they were stealing from their pack members, we knew we had to act. So, the mole in question thought coming up with design project would boost the pack into getting the loan, pretending of cause that it was but in reality it was a play to get them to show their hand."
Elder Frank looked at me for a moment. "That was when they must have used what your mate created. The mole did bring her up several times, telling us how kind she was and more. Nothing bad, but she mentioned she believed they stole something from her which she wanted us to investigate."
"We did but nothing came about until I got a call from your alpha about what happened here and with what you told me, everything lines up with what we know."
No one spoke for a moment; we all had to let the words sink in with what he had said.
"Who is your mole?" Alpha Maddox asked.
"Bailey. She is my niece," Elder Frank said, sounding slightly proud. "She worked alongside your mate, even became friends with her. When she left, she got worried. She overheard the beta stating she took everything and that's when she learned about the design."
I nodded. "Well, now you know what happened here and with what happened to Alpha James's pack, what is to be done that said alpha." The words all but came out in a growl.
"I know you want justice and it will be given, but it wouldn't be here," he said, which made me tense at his words. I go to open my mouth, only for him to continue. "The reason why you didn't come straight here is because I had spoken to your alpha. All the elders are in vote of Alpha James coming back with me, to serve his punishment for what he did here and to his pack. All we needed was your testimony on what happened to seal the fate."
"And what is his fate?" Lewis asked, while I stared at the man. Too stunned to even think straight.
Rafe let out a growl, not liking the situation but he had no say on the matter either.
"Well, there are a few things first that need to be dealt with and then we will notify you of what we decide to do," he said, a slow smile appeared on his lips which made me wonder if they already picked something for him.
Alpha Maddox talked more, giving his information like Lewis and I did while I stayed in my head. My mind going to Kenna, wondering if she was okay.
Everything in me called out to go to her, but I knew I couldn't. It hadn't even been a full day of her trying to get grips with what she saw.
My mind raced till I heard Elder Frank voice come toward me. "You know, your mate is one hell of an artist. It's a shame she stopped when she did and all because of her father's passing."
My eyes locked onto the elder, wondering how he knew such a thing about my mate and reading the room, he spoke again. Softer, like he was dealing with a child. "Bailey told me. Explained about all her notebooks, never went anywhere without one. Either designs or people were drawn. She only saw what Kenna would show her, but she knew there were loads."
No one said a word, while I took in what he said.
Another hour passed before we were allowed to leave the office.
Alpha Maddox and Elder Frank were going to get Alpha James from the cells and place him in a car. When I offered to help, the elder thought it would be best if it was Alpha Maddox and himself since he didn't want the man dead, which was a point.
Rafe was close to coming out and I knew I needed to leave.
Once we left, Lewis mentioned about getting some food but there was no way I was eating anything. I needed to be close to my mate.
Without a thought, I took off and let Rafe out to run since it would settle him. I stayed close and watched where he was going until the beast headed towards Kenna's place but skidded to a stop when the guard came toward us. We stayed to the edge of the forest line not far from her house, we did nothing which made the guard stop. After a while, we noticed the guard was staring blankly, which meant he was mind linking someone. And as soon as he looked back at me, someone tried to mind link me, but I ignored them. I didn't want to talk to anyone.
Staying where I am is all I could do, being this close wasn't the ideal situation for Rafe and me, but we were there for when Kenna needed us and with what happened to the pack, the attack, I knew I needed to be close.
Rafe's eyes stayed on the house, while leaning against a tree. Catrina had tried to mind link, but there was nothing to be said since she had been sitting outside on the porch, trying to get Kenna to come out to talk to her when we got there but nothing happened.
It was getting dark, and I knew for certain Rafe, and I were never leaving here. Not until she needs us, and we pray to the goddess it happens soon.
