The crowd was louder than the engines popping, headlights ready to blind every corner of the streets later tonight.

I'm leaning against my Nissan 240sx at the starting line—my baby, the iconic platinum purple whip that everyone knew about.

Sparks of my lighter lit up, the flames igniting the butt end of my cigarette as my gaze wandered the crowd.

And through all the insanely loud music, my ears closed in on a voice exclusively calling for me.

"Hey Rina."

I turn over, smoke fuming out of my nose from the ciggy I just blew.

It's Matt, one of my friends.

He's always wearing some sleeveless shirt just to show off his gallery of sleeve tattoos that no chick gives a damn about.

"What's up"

"Aeri and Julie said the car is pulling up in five minutes."

It's right when he said that when a baby blue car pulls up, one I've actually seen a couple times before.

An rx7.

Just the sound of its engine purring all the way up to the starting line had the crowd hypnotized.

It sounded like no other, like its own distinct melody.

This guy must be really good.

Correction, girl.

Because she stepped out of the car, hands buried in her dark blue tracksuit that's zipped all the way up, her baseball cap shading the top half of her face.

And she's making her way towards me.

But every second she stepped closer, I saw more and more of her.

Her razor sharp nose, the lips curled in a subtle smile, and eyes that felt colder than it looked.

Ones that could almost strip down the sheer confidence I had.

I felt bare under her gaze.

"Cute car," she mentions my Nissan.

"Let's see if it'll make it past the finish line first."

I gave her a smirk.

"It will."

Her chuckle may have snapped a wire in my brain.

"Karina, right?" She stuck her hand out.

I took it with a firm grasp, a handshake that sent goosebumps running up my arm.
