THIRD POINT OF VIEW
Onika tapped her phone screen with a smack of her lips. It was busted—completely dead.
She'd managed to get out one text before it cut off. She'd already fussed at one of her guys to grab a new phone as fast as he could, but you can't rush a thing like that.
She paced while Waka checked over the recovered shipments, running a finger along a gun's serial before looking up at Onika's furious face. He opened his mouth to say something, but she cut him off, mad as hell.
"I should go back in that room and kill him. I'm so fucking pissed." She kicked a crate and the sound echoed. Waka sighed and stood.
"I told you not to bring your phone with you. Now you're mad it broke," he said, trying for calm.
"I usually don't bring my phone, but she'd been texting me. I wanted to be there for her and show her I care— but this shit?" She scoffed and scanned the crates, the dim light, the men moving in the shadows.
"This shit's harder than it looks," she said.
When Polito gave them the word that their guns were being skimped, they had to deal with it ASAP.
So they did what they were good at. They laid low until they found the boy they were looking for.
His friends called him Lil Jay. And of course, Onika took it personally.
It was like no matter what, she couldn't escape that dumb name.
Jhene had sent them the information—that was the only reason she was with the Kings to begin with.
They needed an insider who wouldn't get caught, and she was it. It was also a way to test her loyalty. To see if she was truly faithful to them and no one else.
It worked during the time they had Lil Jay. They planned on getting the information and letting him go. But while they were interrogating him, he got ballsy and made Onika break her phone.
She was trying her hardest not to go back into that room. Especially because of the things he had said—the people he had mentioned. She didn't know how he had connected it, but he did.
Onika couldn't stop thinking about what he meant.
Waka looked over at her with a sigh, already knowing what she was about to do.
He followed her as she walked back into the room, toward the bloodied-up boy.
"Oh, look who's back," Lil Jay laughed, spitting out blood.
Onika ignored him, crossing her arms and staring.
"Earlier you mentioned a girl your cousin went to school with," she said, leaning down so they were eye level. "Who's your cousin?"
"I'm not about to tell you shit. So either kill me or let me go, pussy."
He spit at her foot, which made Waka fake gag.
"Who's your cousin?" Onika pressed. "You was talking all that shit earlier. You don't even know the damn girl's name."
She was bubbling underneath, wanting to slap the shit out of him, but she held it in.
"I'm not stupid. I'm not about to say that girl's name. I'm not giving up what we know. You niggas think you so big and bad. We know shit about you niggas too. Especially you."
His eyes narrowed on Onika, a grin tugging at his swollen mouth.
"You don't know shit about me," she said flatly. "You wish you did, but truly, you don't know anything. I'll tell you something you don't know, though."
