*Before Flynn's arrival*
~Anna~
Okay, Anna. You can do this. Telling Kristoff that you're ready to label each other will be an easy, peasy breeze. Like baking a pie. I mean, come one, your tongue has literally explored every inch of his mouth. If you can do that, then you can definitely tell him that you want to officially be his girlfriend. There's no way this is something you chicken out on. And you better not! You worked so hard and spent so much on this party. Ugh! Maybe Elsa was right. Maybe I should have just told him in private–
"Hey, sis," Elsa's voice breaks me from my jambled thoughts, making me jump. "Whoa," Elsa giggles, "sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. Are you okay?"
"Oh yeah," I wave her off as I try to sound confident. "Never been better."
But of course, my sister is unconvinced.
"You're still nervous, aren't you?" She asks, and I couldn't help but groan.
"Elsa, I'm about to eat all the sweets," I pointed to all the candy and other sweet goodies on the table that I was staring at a moment before she arrived. "If you hadn't come just now, I guarantee my mouth would be stuffed."
"Anna," she takes my hand in hers, "I promise you, everything is going to be fine. Kristoff loves you. He most likely has been secretly calling you his girlfriend anyway. The whole no label thing he did for you. And why? Because he loves you. You've always been so brave; definitely braver than me. So don't overthink it. Basically, don't be me. And Anna?"
"Yeah?"
She hesitates, looking down at our conjoined hands. Her smile is tight; pained. When she looks back at me, she says, "We're not promised time. We have to make the most of it. We can't take anything for granted. So you need to tell him. Tell him that you love him every day and that you're so lucky to have him and to have met him. Even if you two had a rocky start at first. Because you never know if...you never know if something will happen the next morning that will take it all away."
She was talking about Jack, and probably our parents too. And as much as I love my sister, I hate how serious she can be sometimes. I did not want to cry sad tears tonight, but there they go, filling my eyes.
"Elsa," I dab at my eyes, "It took me forever to do my makeup. Stop making me sad."
Elsa laughs lightly. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be a downer, but I'm serious–"
"That's the problem," I tease.
"Ha ha," she says, sarcastically, with the roll of her eyes. Our mother's eyes.
There's a pang in my heart at the thought of our mom. And then our dad. And then about how Elsa never got to hug them when they left. She was so upset about leaving our home in California. I had thought it was because she hates change and preferred the solitude of her schooling in her room. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought it was actually because of Jack. A boy of all things.
It sounds romantic, but the situation was anything but that.
"Just don't let this party be for nothing," she finishes and then reaches behind me for two plastic cups. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm on drink duty for Jack and I. We're sitting at the table closest to the door if you'd like to join us."
"Sure," I turn and grab a plate, "I'll add a little bit of everything for us to snack on while we wait for Kristoff. Sugar helps the nerves."
"I'm pretty sure it doesn't–"
"There you go again being a downer!"
"Okay, okay. But if you end up having cavities, I will not stop Tooth from scolding you."
