The house was already packed when you arrived - music thumping through the floorboards, people shouting across the rooms, that familiar humid party air clinging to your skin.
Aran had texted you earlier:
Practice's running late. Be there soon, I promise.
But now you really wished he was here.
Because some guy - tipsy, bold, annoying - kept leaning way too close as you waited for the drinks someone promised were "almost ready."
"Hey," he said, giving you a crooked smile. "Didn't know angels came to these dirty parties."
You blinked slowly. "Wow. You practiced that one, huh?"
He smirked. "Did it work?"
"No."
He laughed, leaning closer anyway. "You sure? 'Cause you're smiling."
Before you could tell him you were smiling at how awful that line was, a warm arm slid around your waist.
Firm. Familiar. Claiming.
"Yeah, she smiles a lot," a low voice murmured behind you. "Doesn't mean she wants you anywhere near her."
You didn't even need to turn - that voice lived in your ribs.
Aran.
The guy stiffened, eyes widening. "Oh- I didn't- bro, I had no idea she was-"
"Mine?" Aran supplied, raising an eyebrow. "Yeah. She is."
The guy backed off instantly, mumbling an apology before vanishing into the crowd.
You tilted your head up. "You're late."
Aran pressed a kiss to your temple - calm, controlled, but his jaw was tight.
"He was breathing on you," he muttered. "I could see it from the door."
You snorted. "What, did you sprint across the room?"
"Damn right I did."
Before you could tease him more, a group of drunk friends rounded the corner - and all froze.
They took in the scene: Aran's arm around your waist. Your flushed cheeks. The tension between you.
Then someone pointed dramatically.
"THE COUPLE NEEDS THE CLOSET."
Another voice: "SEVEN MINUTES! GO! GO! GO!"
"Wait- hold up-" Aran tried.
Too late.
Hands shoved. Aran instinctively moved behind you, one arm protecting your head as both of you stumbled into a dark closet. The door slammed. Locked.
You exhaled, brushing hair from your face. "Well. Hi."
Aran chuckled, his hands sliding down your arms, grounding you. "Not how I planned to get you alone tonight."
"Yeah?" you teased. "What was your plan?"
He moved closer - slow, deliberate - until your back met the closet wall and his palms rested on either side of your waist.
"I was gonna find you... walk right up... kiss you like I missed you..." His voice dropped. "...because I did."
Your breath hitched. "Aran..."
He dipped his head, mouth brushing your jaw. "Then I walk in and see that dude all over you, and suddenly I'm thinking less romantic and more-"
"You jealous?" you murmured.
"Jealous?" He laughed quietly - low, rough, dangerous in the most intoxicating way. "Nah, baby. Jealous is too small a word."
His lips finally found yours.
The kiss started soft - a slow exhale of tension - then deepened, turning warm, hungry, electric. His hands slid to your hips, pulling you against him like he'd been waiting all evening just to touch you.
You tangled your fingers in the front of his shirt, tugging him closer, kissing him back until your knees nearly gave out.
Aran pulled back just barely, foreheads pressed together.
"Next time," he whispered, "I'm picking you up. No coming alone."
You smiled against his lips. "Fine. But only if you kiss me like this again."
He grinned. "Baby, I'll kiss you like this anytime."
The door swung open.
Everyone screamed.
"THEY DEFINITELY DID SOMETHING!"
Aran didn't even try to hide his smirk as he grabbed your hand and guided you out.
He leaned down and whispered in your ear:
"Let 'em talk. You're coming home with me anyway."
