The game had barely ended before the crowd started forming around him.
Sakusa never liked attention- and today was worse.
A group of fangirls had waited near the gym exit, buzzing with excitement, phones out, hands reaching. Normally Komori handled situations like this, but he'd been dragged into a post-game interview.
So Sakusa walked out alone.
Bad idea.
"Omi, can we get a picture?" "Just one touch! Your hair looks so soft-" "Can you sign my shirt? Here, I'll lean closer-"
A hand tugged at his sleeve. Another reached for his face.
His breath hitched- a flash of panic tightening his shoulders.
And then a voice cut through the noise.
"Hey-back up. All of you."
You pushed through the circle, placing yourself between Sakusa and the reaching hands. Your arm came out in a barrier, steady and firm.
"He said no pictures today." You glared. "And no touching. Seriously."
The fangirls blinked, surprised, annoyed, but you didn't move.
Behind you, Sakusa finally exhaled.
You didn't notice the way his hand brushed the back of your coat- like he was grounding himself. Like he felt safer with you there.
"Let's go," you murmured to him without turning around.
He followed instantly.
You guided him out of the cluster and toward the hallway, only stopping when you were completely alone.
Sakusa leaned against the wall, running a hand down his mask. His curls stuck to his forehead with sweat.
He was breathing too fast.
You stepped closer. "Hey. They didn't hurt you, right?"
"No," he muttered, voice lower than usual. "Just-too close. Too many hands."
Your chest softened.
Without thinking, you reached up and fixed a curl on his forehead.
He stared. Really stared.
"You okay?" you whispered.
He swallowed, eyes lingering on your hand.
"...Thank you," he said, quieter than you'd ever heard him. "You didn't have to do that."
"I know," you said with a small smile. "But I wanted to."
He looked away, ears turning pink.
Then, after a beat- his hand brushed yours.
Tentative. Testing. More intimate than anything the fangirls tried to do.
"You're the only one I'm comfortable with touching me," Sakusa admitted, voice barely audible.
Your heart almost exploded.
"You can... always pull me out of crowds," he added awkwardly.
You teased, "Is that your way of asking me to stay close?"
His jaw tightened, shy and stubborn all at once.
"...Yes," he said finally. "Please."
And when you laced your fingers with his- he didn't pull away.
He tightened the grip.
