You didn't plan on going anywhere tonight.

You just needed to get out of the house.

To breathe.

So you went to the one place that usually felt safe: your friend's house. Koganegawa's sister. The girl who never seemed to stop talking, laughing, or dragging you into nonsense.

You didn't even text first. You just... showed up.

But the moment the front door opened, noise hit you like a wave.

Music. Laughter. Voices.

A small party.

Your heart dropped.

"Oh my god, YOU'RE HERE!" your friend shouted, immediately grabbing your wrist before you could back out. "Come on!"

"I-wait-are you sure-?"

"Nope! Too late!" she grinned. "I need you! We're bored!"

She didn't notice the state you were in.

Koganegawa did.

He froze from across the room, his obnoxiously tall frame going stiff. His smile faded instantly, replaced by something soft... concerned.

He took a step toward you like he wasn't sure if he should interrupt.

But your friend dragged you deeper inside before he could reach you.

"Okay EVERYONE, Y/N is joining us!" she announced proudly.

Great. Attention. Exactly what you didn't need.

You forced a smile, hugging yourself tightly. Your chest still felt tight from what happened earlier-an argument with someone close to you, words that hurt more than you expected. You came here hoping for quiet.

Instead, the room spun with chaos.

Koganegawa made his way to you anyway, weaving between bodies, eyes fixed on your face like he could see right through your practiced expression.

He finally reached you. "Hey," he said softly. Too softly for a guy who usually shouted everything.

You looked up.

His brows were furrowed. "You okay?"

Your throat tightened. You nodded too fast. "Yeah. I'm fine."

He didn't believe you for a second.

Before he could say more-

His sister clapped her hands. "WE'RE PLAYING A GAME!"

Groans and cheers echoed through the room.

Koganegawa sighed under his breath. "Oh no..."

Your friend suddenly pointed at you. "Y/N is playing."

"No-really, I don't have to-"

"Yes you do!" she insisted, oblivious. "You need fun! You look like you need fun!"

If she only knew.

Someone grabbed a bottle. Everyone sat in a circle.

Koganegawa leaned down, whispering, "We don't have to play. I'll get you out-"

But the room was already chanting.

"Sit! Sit! Sit!"

And you didn't want to make a scene.

So you sat.

Right next to him.

He shifted closer, knees brushing yours. Subtle. Protective.
