Alright guys so a few days ago I went to see the the Super Mario Galaxy Movie and I thought I should get my review as well as my thoughts on this because while I enjoyed the film it's kind of a mixed bag for me and I'll explain why in a minute. But before we get started I will say this review will contain MAJOR SPOILERS for the movie so if you haven't seen the movie yet click off and watch it otherwise let's get started.

Let's start things off with the story. This one is kind of a mix bag because everything is just all over the place. I know that was the case for the first film but at least in that film there was a clear direction in terms of story this one on the other hand... it was all over the place. I honestly wish Nintendo and Illumination made the sequel the Super Mario World Movie and just saved Galaxy for like a third or fourth film so that way we would have time to expand the story a bit more that would give characters like Yoshi some time to develop but if they wanted to go the Galaxy route I honestly wish they just make it significantly longer than 90 minutes. The story wasn't as bad as people say it is but I can understand the complaints about it.
Now let's move onto the characters. First of all I like how Mario and Luigi and actually go to be on this adventure together which in the last film they did not. Peach was also pretty badass especially with that umbrella. I also liked Rosalina although the biggest complaint about the film is that she had like 10 minutes of screen time but in the original game Rosalina had even less screen time. Like she's there at the beginning then you talk to her in hub world, and she's there at the end. That's pretty much it. However I do agree that we should've at least see her expand her lore especially with the reveal that she and Peach are actually related as sisters. Speaking of which I know that's a change that actually people complained about but I've seen many changes in regards to the Sonic movies like how Gerald Robotnik didn't actually create Shadow he just came to Earth as a meteor and there were no complaints about that but I digress. That being said I do think Peach and Rosalina being related is an interesting concept and it's a bit sad, though again I wish they could've expanded in it more. As for Fox McCloud him being in this movie was pretty shocking like I know they already confirmed he was going to play a major role in the movie but still was pretty odd to see but then again if they are planning on setting up some kind of Super Smash Bros movie in the future I think that's something pretty awesome though with Sonic and Zelda both being live action movies that is easier said than done if not impossible. But in my opinion I think Bowser and Bowser Jr as the best parts of the movie. First off that bedtime story where Bowser tells Junior the story was pretty cute and the fact that Junior actually created that planet for his father was pretty awesome. Really shows they did a great job with the father and son dynamic like the video games. Now I know some people were confused about the whole Bowser being a good guy and then switching back immediately but if you are a long time Mario fan like me you would know that Bowser was never going to be a good guy I mean even in the film they made it obvious based on the way he throws insults and that alliance was destined to be temporary so yeah I knew it won't last. Bowser will always be Mario's arch-nemesis and that won't change. Over all I think the characters are cool.
And lastly I want to touch on everything else like the animation is awesome and though they completely overdue the cameos and references I looked past them because I don't pay attention to them much. As for the actors they all did a really great job. Brie Larson and Donald Glover are the ones who surprised me. I know I didn't like Brie when she was Captain Marvel in the MCU but thankfully she made a comeback when she did her performance as Rosalina. And Donald definitely did a great job as Yoshi if they do make a third film I can't wait to see more of him.
Speaking of which the post credit scene reveals Daisy will make an appearance clearly setting the stage for a third film which I am excited to see. Overall I really liked and enjoyed the movie even if it wasn't story driven I just wish it was much better. If I had to rate this I'd give it a 7 out of 10 which isn't bad but a far step down from the first movie and I do hope they make improvements in the future, especially since they will likely continue to make more movies.
Rate: 7.7/10 C+
