Valentine's Day had never really meant much to Addy. Working patrol meant most holidays were just another shift, another call, another long day in uniform.

But today felt different. When Addy walked into the kitchen that morning, Ellie balanced on her hip, she stopped short.

A bouquet of flowers sat in the center of the table. Her favorites. Soft pink peonies mixed with white roses and eucalyptus.

Addy stared at them for a moment before noticing the small card tucked between the stems. Tim leaned casually against the counter, sipping his coffee like he hadn't just placed them there minutes earlier.

"Happy Valentine's Day" Tim says with a small smile.  Ellie reached toward the flowers with a tiny grabby hand.

"Easy there," Addy laughed softly, pulling her back. Tim smirked.

"She's got good taste."

Addy glanced at him. "Thank you," she said quietly. Tim nodded "You're welcome"

The Gala

That evening the ballroom buzzed with music, conversation, and glittering lights. The charity gala had drawn a huge crowd. Officers, city officials, donors all gathered to raise money for the children's hospital.

Addy stepped out of the restroom and paused in the hallway. Her dress was simple but elegant, a black dress that hugged her waist before falling softly to the floor. Her hair pin straight, and makeup kept simple.

She took a breath before stepping inside. Across the room, Tim was mid-conversation with Angela when he saw her.

And completely lost his train of thought.
Addy walked toward the bar, unaware of the way Tim's eyes followed her through the crowd.

She looked... stunning. Angela nudged Tim's arm with a smirk.

"You listening?" Tim blinked.

"Yeah. Sorry." But his gaze drifted back to Addy again. She was laughing at something the Celina  said, her shoulders relaxing for the first time all week.

Tim found himself smiling. The gala had been going smoothly for almost two hours when the shouting started.

A couple near the dance floor had begun arguing.
