The air in the room felt thick, heavy with the weight of unspoken words. Tim hadn't expected to find himself here, sitting on the their bed. She had finally allowed him to pick her up from the bathroom floor, and settle her into their bed.
With his hands trembling slightly as he watched her fight for control. The sound of her shallow breaths filled the space, a raw, frantic rhythm that echoed.
"Addison," Tim's voice was soft, barely a whisper, as if louder words would shatter the fragile silence. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her forehead, his fingers gentle, tentative. Her eyes flickered toward him, wide and unfocused, and he could see the fear in her gaze.
"Tim..." Her voice cracked, barely audible as the panic gripped her.
He immediately sat closer, careful not to startle her. His hand hovered near hers, waiting for her to reach for him, needing that connection. When she did, he grasped her fingers, his grip firm yet soothing.
"You're okay," he murmured, his voice low and steady. "I've got you" he says to her. Her head lying against his chest as he held her.
Addison's chest heaved with each desperate breath she took, and her body trembled uncontrollably. Tim kept his eyes on her, watching every movement, his pulse steady, even though inside, his heart raced. This was the first time he had seen her like this, and he was all to blame.
She was his Addison, and seeing her in such a fragile state made the emptiness between them feel even deeper, even though the breakup had been a month.
He leaned in slowly, carefully, making sure she knew exactly what he was doing every step of the way. He adjusted the blanket around her, making sure it was warm but not too heavy. He always paid attention to the small details, and now, those details were all he had left to offer her.
"How's the baby?" Addison gasped, still trying to steady her breath.
Tim's heart lurched at her words, "She's okay. She's sleeping" he reassured her, his voice was soft.
Addison closed her eyes, a tear slipping down her cheek. She was so strong, so resilient in so many ways, but in these moments, her vulnerability broke through, and he felt the weight of it like an unspoken plea.
