Chapter 39: The truth

Past event

I stared at my blood-stained paws, the water lapping at them to clean away the evidence. "Urrr, y-you won't g-get away with this, the prophecy will be fulfilled and they will stop you." Mew groaned. I turned my gaze toward him. The small Mythical Pokémon lay in the blood-stained grass, with large claw marks marring his small body. I flicked my ear; how could anyone know? They'd never suspect an average mon like me of murdering a Pokémon like Mew. I then fully submerged my body into the water, still watching him. "Really? You're dying... you won't live to tell anyone what I've done; your story ends here, and it's about time," I told him confidently, the water around me turning crimson. Mew's body shook with each breath; his eyes dulled, then he went still. I walked out onto the riverbank again and shook my fur out — it was done. Mew, the ruler, was gone. "That could have gone better..." I heard a voice and turned my gaze toward the Mewtwo sitting on a rock, watching Mew's lifeless body. I lashed my tail in annoyance. "Well, you didn't really help now, did you? And you would've had a better chance than me," I growled. Mewtwo only glanced at me before looking back at Mew. "We should get rid of the body before anyone sees it; it could ruin me and everything I've built," he said. I sat down and looked at him. "Us, you mean... You offered me power and freedom to do what I want if I help you get rid of him," I reminded him sharply. He looked at me reluctantly. "....Fine, I guess I could use your help, but you gotta do me one more favour," he said with a smirk. I felt irritated, but I wanted in on the power hold, so I nodded my head.

Present day

Nova's P.O.V

My paws felt heavy as I followed the Jolteon. Erica was walking close to me; her fur brushed against mine, but I couldn't find comfort in it. 'He's gone... he's really gone...' I couldn't believe it. I'd never see Milo again, and it weighed on me so much. My fur rippled as I noticed Hydro's cold glare on me. It was unsettling, like I was his prey. "Ignore him... he wouldn't do anything to upset Cora," Erica whispered to me as if reading my mind. I nodded, but honestly, I wasn't sure that was true. There was something very dark about Hydro. His green eyes had a hollow, emotionless look to them. I shivered as a breeze ruffled my fur.

Cora came to a stop in front of a large cave. "Alright, we're here. In this cave is our destination," Cora announced. I felt surprised, and without thinking, I blurted out my thoughts. "Is this Moonlight Lake? I expected something else, honestly." Hydro snapped his hard glare onto me. "Shut up... you're just a prisoner!" he growled, but Cora shoved him. "She is with Erica... So her thoughts are welcomed as long as she keeps in line." There was a warning in those words; they spoke volumes. It was clear that Cora didn't really want to hurt Erica, and I don't think she'd hurt me either. 'But why is Cora doing all this? What is in the cave?' I then remembered my dreams of the Espeon, the way she seemed to want me to find Cora. 'But what can I do for her? How can I change Cora?'

I narrowed my eyes. "You two!" Hydro called to two Charizards, the ones that helped start that fire. "Watch these three, me and Cora are doing this alone!" he told them, pointing his crooked tail at me, Erica, and Lite. I felt a sudden sharp pain in my head; I gasped, and Erica and Cora looked at me with confusion. I don't know why the pain happened, but I could hear her voice, the Espeon from my dreams. 'Go with them!' it told me. I studied my paws and forced myself to focus on Cora. "No... I need to go in with you guys." I surprised even myself with how demanding my voice was. Hydro bared his teeth in a snarl. "How dare you!" Before he could charge at me, Cora stepped between us. A look of interest flickered in her single eye. "Hmm, very well, only the four of us," she said.
