Unexpected love

Chapter Thirteen: Expecting the worse

Emma's POV

I wanted to hug Killian forever. I didn't want to leave his embrace. My son was dangerously ill and it was heartbreaking to look at him in such a way.

"Emma, we should get you back up to the ICU. Henry needs you." Killian whispered into my ear. "Will you come with me? I could use your support right now." I asked him. He smiles "of course love. I'll always be here." I grab his hand and we walk to the elevator. Me, Killian and Liam got inside and I pushed "level 7". After a few short, silent moments in the elevator we hopped out and walked up to a private waiting room that was connected to Henry's room as there was a "do not enter, tests being performed" sign in his door.

"Liam, I don't think its best you come in. It may be a little too graphic for you." Killian explains to him. He frowns but nods his head in agreement. "But once he's is better and not so poorly looking we will let you in okay?" I smiled at him. His face brightened a little. I remembered I was talking to someone who was the same age as Henry so I dealt with it the same way I would with him.

A couple of minutes later a nurse who was in Henry's room came into his private waiting room. "Hello Ms. Swan we just ran some tests on Henry. We took some blood to test for diagnosis for infections, cancer and other things that we don't need to focus on just yet." The nurse explained. "What's the next step then?" I asked holding Killian's hand. "Well we are keeping him on the fluids, keeping him on oxygen. His blood pressure is lower than we'd like it to be so we are gonna focus on that. We will take our next step in a few hours when we know the results. But right now we can't tell what condition he is in so for now I don't want to you to get your hopes up, I mostly want you to expect the worse. But we are doing all we can." She explains to us. My heart sinks. Killian sees the look on my face and turns to the nurse. "Thank you." He tells her. "Your welcome. Your free to go in and see him now." She replies then leaves us in the waiting room.

Once she leaves I sink into Killian's arms. I begin crying harder than before. They didn't even know what was wrong with him yet. That's what hurt the most. "Emma. Its okay. He will be okay." Killian says into my hair. He rests his chin on my head. "I'll be here for you and him no matter what." He continued.

Me and Killian walked into Henry's room and he never let go of my hand. It was a awful and traumatizing sight. One that will permanently stain my mind. He was hooked up to tons of machines and his heart monitor was beeping quickly and loudly. He had an oxygen mask on and his eyes were closed tight. I just wanted to wake him up and hold him close and bring him home. But I can't. The colour of his cheeks had faded and he looked pale white. I walked up to his side and grabbed his hand and held it tightly. Tears ran down my face as I played with his hair, pushing it out of his face.

"Emma, I didn't know it was this bad. I'm so sorry." Killian whispered into my ear. "Its okay, I'm just happy your here to be with me." I relied to him. He held me close and I embraced him. I just stared at the monitors consistently to make sure nothing went haywire. His blood pressure was really low and that's what worried me the most.

Killian's POV

I hated seeing Emma in the state she was in. She was emotionally hurt and I wouldn't blame her. If it was Liam I would be heartbroken. Henry is all she has left for family.

After a few hours of sitting in the room with Henry Emma decided it was best for me and Liam to go home. I of course didn't agree and decided to take Liam to my aunts to stay for the rest of the week. After a long goodbye hug, I rushed downstairs to the car with Liam to drop him off.

"Killian. Is Henry going to die?" Liam asks me. I look over at him quickly with fear on my face. He must know how bad it really is. "Of course not kid. He will pull through, he's a fighter." I said smiling at him. I hoped that it reassured him and went back to focusing on driving.

When I arrived at my aunts I quickly said hello and left Liam there before apologizing as I had to leave to get back to Emma. My aunt understood and let me go.

The drive back to the hospital was silent. I never liked driving by myself and I wasn't used to it. But soon I got a call from Emma and put it on speaker.

"Hello love, is everything okay?"

"Hey Killian. Where are you?"

"I'm very close to the hospital, why what's up?"

"Henry's test results are back and I want you to be here when she tells me them"

"Im coming into the car park now love. I'll be right up."

"Okay see you soon"

"Love you"

"Love you too"
