Lacey POV
I walked in the door and sat down on one of the plastic chairs. "Hey, mom." I grinned. Miranda looked up from her phone and grinned at me.
"I decided to come back here instead of behind alone at home." She nodded at me. "How was Carrie?" "She was great! We went to eat and then Mike took me on a zamboney." I grinned. "That sounds like fun!" She said, setting her phone down.
"Do you know when you'll be released?" I asked. "Actually, that's why I told Carrie to drop you home. She's supposed to pick me up and bring me home." She laughed at me.
"So, today?" I laughed. "Yeah." She grinned at me. The door opened and I jumped. Carrie strolled inside. She was wearing dark sunglasses and I looked at her suspiciously. "Did you go b..""ready to go?" She cut me off, shooting me a look through the glasses. I shrunk back.
What the heck happened??
"Yeah! They just have to sign me out." Miranda said, acting like nothing was wrong. "Oh! I forgot to tell you. A lot of the time, stars wear glasses indoors so people don't recognize them. And since we're about to leave, I kept them on." She explained quickly.
"Oh! Okay. Gotcha." I said, walking over to Miranda's bag. I packed her stuff while she laid in bed, for once heeding my protests.
I finished packing as the doctor strolled in. "Hey! I'll make some last checks and then get you out of here." He grinned. "We'll take stuff out to the car." Carrie said, grabbing her flowers and one of Miranda's bags.
We walked into the elevator and I turned toward Carrie. "Are you okay? You seem like you're in pain...." I trailed off. "Yeah! I'm fine." She grinned at me. Before I could say anything else, the doors opened and she walked through.
I followed her to her car and we put everything inside. "Oh! I'll take that." She said, reaching for the last bag. Her sunglasses slid down and I gasped.
She quickly slid them back up before painfully standing back up. "Who..what? Who did that to you." I barked. "Wow. You sure you're not blood related to Miranda?" She laughed before wincing.
"No one. It's nothing." She said quickly shutting the trunk. "Something's going on. Mike was furious when he was on the phone. Tell me." I snapped. She didn't say anything but walk toward the hospital.
We rode the elevator in silence until we reached Miranda's room. Carrie opened the door and we walked inside. "Hey, you can take those off. We'll be in here for a little longer." Miranda said to Carrie.
Carrie just sighed and looked at me. "No, I'm good." She said. I glared at her and she shrunk slightly away from me.
We sat in silence until Miranda spoke. "What's going on?" She barked. "Lacey, out." Carrie snapped. "No." I said back.
"Lacey please!" Carrie said, I'd never seen her so angry. I started toward the door. "Wait." Miranda said. "What? Am I dog?" I laughed harshly.
"Take those glasses off, Lacey shut the door, and sit down!" Miranda snarled. Carrie sighed and took off her glasses as I shut the door.
"Carrie! What the hell?" She asked. Carrie sat down into the chair, wincing. I sat next to Carrie, staring intently at her.
"Did Mike...?" Miranda asked, I could see her jaw clinching. "No. It wasn't Mike." She sounded defeated. "Was it that man...""Lacey, shut it." Carrie snapped. When I met her I never imagined this side of her!
"What man? What's going on? Are you cheating....?" Miranda asked, her eyes growing a bit soft. "No. I'm not the one cheating." She said, going to stand up.
"Sit. Tell me what's going on. I want the truth and I want it now." Miranda snarled. Suddenly, I put it together. She's not the one cheating...why that man looked so familiar....
"Blake." I managed to say. Miranda swung her head so fast to me I thought it was going to roll off. "What?" She snarled. "That man we saw...""Lacey. I said to stop talking." Carrie snapped at me.
"No! Tell me." Miranda begged. "Fine. Lacey and I spotted a man that looked familiar. I sent Lacey off with Mike and approached the man to figure out how I knew him. He shoved me into the bar when we recognized each other, cutting my arm and brusing my side.
I looked for him outside and I hit him first. He swung back and pinned me against the wall. He begged me not to tell you...but Miranda. It was Blake." Those words seemed to fall off of an invisible cliff.
"WHAT!? WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL ME!? HE DID THAT TO YOU?" She yelled at full volume. "Mom...""Lacey! Save it." She snarled at me. I jumped back, tears running down my face. I had never heard her so angry.
"Are you ready to..." The doctor trailed off and shut the door. I would've laughed if I weren't so upset. Miranda was furious like a bull.
I didn't know what to do, so I sat with my head down. That's the last thing I expected to hear today. There was a long silence until I heard Miranda get up. She walked into the bathroom, carrying her clothes.
"Do you need.""NO" Miranda snapped, slamming the door shut. I looked at Carrie who was staring into her hands. "I..." I started before trailing off. Carrie didn't say anything or even move. She looked too terrified to breathe.
"I'm sorry. This is all my fault. No matter what I do, I always manage to mess every single thing up. I should've listened to you and stopped talking. I'm sorry. Now she's angry with you. This is all my fault." I started to cry into my hands.
"Lacey. Honey. It's not your fault.""No. If I had just gone straight home, this conversation would've never happened." I said, closing in on myself.
Carrie didn't say anything for a few moments. To my surprise, her voice cracked and she cried. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't've snapped at you. This is just a very tense situation and I made it worse by yelling at you. It's not your fault." She said, putting a hand on my back.
"It is my fault." I managed to squeak out. I felt myself go numb.
The door opened and I heard Miranda's boots on the linoleum. I didn't move or look at her.
"Let's go." She said quietly. I slowly unfolded and moved without looking at her. Carrie painfully walked toward the door and opened it. Miranda signed her papers and we drove home.
