Lacey POV
I gathered my things and made sure I had the pieces of paper and started to walk. I didn't care who saw me, a few people said goodbye and good luck.
I kept walking. I made it out the front door when the alarm went off! I started to run, picking up my bag; I kept running down random streets until I reached an older looking building. It had an alley next to it.
I fell asleep on a dumpster, after closing my eyes.
"Get up!" I heard someone snarl. I opened my eyes, a very stern and mean looking man was yelling at me. I got up and grabbed my bag, running away. I ran out onto the street and kept running. I realized I was in downtown Nashville! I kept running, just in case the mean man was following me. I finally stopped running at a huge building with windows.
It had pictures of country music stars on it, "Country Music Hall Of Fame" it read in bold letters on the top of the building. I scanned the front and saw "Tours!" on a fancy sign. I hid my things behind a tree and proceeded inside with whatever little money I had in my wallet. Country Music had always been a huge part of my life, it's what got me through all the terrible people and orphanages. I walked through the dining area and through to the counter with a glass window.
I knocked on it, there was no one back there! I sighed, turning back around. I was about to walk out when I heard, "Tours don't start till 9." I jumped and turned, there were two women behind me. One of them was around my height, 5'1, the other was a tall security guard with black hair. The security guard looked angry.
"How did you get in here?" She asked me. I gulped, "The front door was open. And..I wanted to see if y'all had a tour." I said quietly. "She's fine. It was only a mistake. I really don't mind. Let her in, I'll give her a tour." The woman around my height said. She had short, blonde hair and was wearing a white tank top that said "Momma Tried", jeans, a jean jacket, and silver cowboy boots.
The security guard looked really anoyyed at the other woman's comment. "No. It's okay. I can wait, really." I sighed. "Got nothing else to do anyway." I shrugged, it was true, I had pretty much no money, no home, nothing. The other woman's eyes lit up with familiarity. "What were you running from earlier?" I froze and glanced at the blonde haired woman. "What?" I asked, totally confused.
"The alley. Near the Rhyman?" "Oh! I had fallen asleep in the alley and someone had chased me out." I said, looking very nervously at the security guard. "Here, we have three hours before the event, why don't I give her a little tour?" The woman asked the security guard. "Okay. You get one hour. That's it."
The woman smiled at me, "Thank you!" She said to the security guard. I took out my wallet, "No! This one's on me." The woman said with a smile. "Are you sure? I mean..I have enough I think..." I trailed off. "Yes. Don't try and fight me on it!" She laughed. I sighed, defeated, "Okay."
She lead me into the museum. I was really happy that I got to look at everything, but still a bit freaked that I was hanging out with a stranger I didn't know! "Okay, so here's Kelly Clarkson's outfit! It looked really pretty when she wore it!" The comments the woman made made me curious, she seemed to know things, almost personally.
We passed by a section with a huge glass case, we were on the ground floor. "Here's where the new exhibits go up." She smiled at me. Some men were wandering around, taking down some remaining curtains. "I think it's finally ready." She beamed, her smiled wide. I looked at her, a bit confused and startled that she was so happy.
I shook it off and looked at the new exhibit. It was decorated with so many things pink and silver! My favorite was the all pink guitar in the case. I looked at it, thinking of my own guitar. A tear ran down my face. That's right.. in addition to all the things I didn't have, I didn't have a guitar anymore.
"Here's...why ya cryin?" I heard the woman ask, I forgot she was there! "Oh..Someone broke my guitar. That's all. Don't worry about it." I shrugged. "Oh. I'm sorry sweetie!" She said, she sounded like she actually meant it! We stayed silent for a while while I looked at all the things in the case. "So, what's your name?" She asked me. We were stopped almost at the end, they hadn't finished taking down one last curtain. "My name is Lacey." I smiled at her.
"Where are ya from?" She smiled at me. "Texas. How about you?" I asked, curious, I knew nothing about this woman. "Me too! I'm also from Texas." I was about to say something else when they took the tarp down. It was a big picture of Miranda Lambert. I smiled, she used to be my dad's favorite. I looked back at the woman and almost face palmed!
