Lacey POV
My punishment was not as bad as I thought it would be. I just had to stay in my room for a day without my phone.
The next day Miranda and I packed to go to Texas. I dragged my suitcase down the stairs and toward the garage door.
"Almost ready?" Miranda called. "Yeah! I'm bringing my suitcase now!" I called. She helped me load it into her truck bed along with our guitars and some other random stuff. Miranda shut the lid to the bed and we climbed into the cab.
We drove though Arkansas and several other places before finally reaching Lindale a good 13 hours later.
It was pitch black outside when I hopped out of the truck. We had gotten in at 1am due to some stops along the way.
Lindale was about the smallest town that I had ever seen in my life! Miranda lead me up to the front door and knocked on it.
A woman came out holding a shotgun, she looked identical to Miranda! "Sorry, I wanted to have it be a surprise but didn't realize how late we would get in!" Miranda laughed as her mom put down the gun.
"Well come on in! Welcome home!" She hugged Miranda and stared at me. "Oh....I guess with everything that's happened I forgot to tell you something. Something big." Miranda said, walking inside. She flipped on the light to reveal a small sitting room.
"Mom, sit on the couch. I have two things to tell you. Where's dad?" "He had to go to Dallas for work. He'll be back in a day." Her mom replied.
"So...who's this? A friend of yours?" Her mom asked sweetly to me.
"Umm...this is your granddaughter. Lacey Lambert." Miranda said slowly. "I have a. You did. How long have you been gone!? She's at least...how old are you dear?" Her mom asked me. "15."
"15! You're just kidding aren't you?" Her mom asked. "No...actually I'm serious. I adopted her." Miranda smiled.
"Look before you say anything, this is honestly been the best thing I've ever done in my life!" Miranda grinned from ear to ear despite it being 1:30 am.
Her mom opened her mouth and then shut it. She reached over and gave me a huge hug! I jumped before returning it.
"Aww, Ran this is wonderful! I've always wanted a grandkid!" Her mom beamed. Miranda breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh thank goodness. For a minute there I was pretty scared!" "What does Blake think about this?" Her mom asked happily.
There were a few beats of silence. A clock was ticking loudly in the background, drowning out everything else. "Actually mom, that's the second thing. Blake wants a divorce." The only noise seemingly for miles was me shifting in my seat.
"You know that's not very Christianly. But. Did you try your hardest?" Her mom asked gently.
"I did. I did everything I possibly could to see him. I flew to his shows to see him, I flew out to set. But he cheated on me." "Aww Ran." My grandmother hugged Miranda.
"I think it's for the best then. I think it's the best for you." My grandmother said, holding Miranda at arms length.
"Thanks. Hey, sweetie, why don't I put you to bed? It's getting pretty late." Miranda said, turning to me. I yawned.
"Sounds like you agree!" Her mom laughed. "Yes mam." I said tiredly. Her mom laughed. "Whelp if you're going to be my granddaughter, just call me grandma." She grinned at me. "No need for such formalities." She laughed.
We all walked into a bedroom on the bottom floor. Miranda lead me to the bathroom and I got changed.
When I came out, Miranda and her mom were talking. They stopped and turned to me. "Ready for bed? I'll tuck you in." Miranda grinned.
"Thanks mom." I said. A lot of people would think it was weird that she was tucking me in at 15 but I had never really had that before, so I appreciated it.
I fell asleep quickly.
