Lacey POV
I waited for Kacey to pick up. When she finally did, I saw a camera flash on her!
"Oh! Sorry. I can call you another time if you want." I grinned. "Okay! Sorry, I'm at a photo shoot right now." She grinned. "Call you later!"
I hung up and flung my phone onto my bed, sighing. I wondered if all of the smoke had cleared and if I could come out now.
I creaked my door open to hear Miranda still yelling. I sighed, closing the door back.
I walked over to my desk and saw something wrapped with a bow on top of it. I tilted my head curiously, pulling at the string.
I carefully unwrapped the paper and looked down. It was a beautiful journal with a hearts and wings logo on it. I grinned at it and picked it up. A note slid out.
To: Lacey Lambert
From: Miranda Lambert
I grinned at my present. Opening the first page, I saw a message in gentle cursive.
"Lacey Loo. I just want to say how unbelievably happy I am that I am now your mother. No matter what happens in these next few months, just know that I love you. You are the daughter that I have always wanted, except without having to deal with all the diaper changes. Anyway, I think that 15 is a beautiful age.
In this journal you'll find a list of words in the back. I had this journal made for you in case you want to write songs. I would love to write with you sometime, if you want! But, no pressure! I hope you like it and I am so excited you're my daughter.
P.s. My mother will spoil you. Just warning you. :)
I laughed at the last part and opened it to the first page. It stared back at me, blank like my thoughts.
I heard a tiny knock on my door and turned around. Miranda came walking in, some of her mascara still on her face.
"I'm sorry, Lacey." Was all she said. I just shrugged. "It's okay." "Lacey. Listen to me. You had absolutely NOTHING to do with this. You just happened to come in at a bad time. But that's not your fault either. This would've happened either way. Promise." She said, reaching out to hug me. Surprisingly, and almost as if we were connected, both of us started crying.
We didn't say anything for a long while. Finally, Miranda spoke, "Well. I guess you now have a crazy mother for a parent." "What did you do?" I asked slowly.
"I uh....shot the phone...." "Miranda! Mom!?" I said, shocked. "Nah I'm kidding. But I shot his favorite hat to pieces." "Hey, that's better.""you didn't let me finish. While he was on the phone...." I started laughing.
"Are you done with your little revenge spree? Feel better?" I laughed. She blushed deeply. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done all of that in front of you."
"It's okay. I understand. You were just angry, that's all! And I understand why you were upset, I would be too!"
"Get dressed, we're going out to eat and shopping." She told me. "Okay!" I laughed.
I threw on my nice red sundress and cowboy boots that Miranda had gotten me and did my hair.
