Lacey POV
I looked up to see a man that looked familiar but I couldn't remember where I had seen him before. He walked in with a pretty looking blonde, he was wearing a ball cap, glasses, plaid shirt, jeans and boots.
"What's wrong?" Carried asked me. I jumped. "Huh? Oh sorry." I apologized. Carrie glanced over and her eyes widened. She quickly hid it when she turned back to me.
She didn't say anything for a few minutes. "Carrie? What's wrong?" I asked. "Did you recognize him too?" She arched an eyebrow at me. Before she could say anything, the door opened.
"Carrie! Hey, honey!" I raised an eyebrow at Carrie. The man came and sat next to me. "Oh! Mike." She grinned like a child that had just spotted her crush. I still saw her worried look.
"Lacey, this is Mike, my husband." She said, Mike shook my hand. "Hey! Nice to meet you." He was wearing a Preds shirt with jeans and a hat.
"This is Miranda and Blake's daughter." Mike turned to Carrie wide eyed. "She's who now?" He laughed. "Miranda's and Blake's daughter. They're gonna adopt her." Carrie repeated, leaning over the table.
"That's awesome, Lacey." Mike grinned. I heard a chair move and glanced around. The man had just stood up and moved quickly toward the bathroom. I glanced at Carrie and knew that she noticed him too.
"Okay, you two. What's going on?" Mike asked. "Nothing! His chair just startled me. That's all. Hey, Mike, could you take Lacey and show her around the arena before you drop her at Miranda's? I just got a text that I have to run to an interview." Carrie said, her voice faultering slightly.
Mike looked like he was about to get hit by a train. He snapped out of it and grinned "Uh, yeah, sure, honey." We paid our bill, me fighting, and the Fishers refusing to let me pay.
Mike lead me out the door while Carrie stayed inside. "So, what do you like to do?" He asked me cheerfully. "I like music!" I laughed. We walked down the street a few blocks toward the arena.
"Do you know what was going on? Sorry if this is rude, but that was weird...." I trailed off. Mike looked at me and laughed, "you don't miss much, do you?" "Nope.""I have no idea what's going on. Honest." He held up his hands in a mock surrender.
"Okay. Guess we'll find out soon enough." I shrugged.
We reached the arena and Mike held open the door. Security came walking toward us and looked us up and down. "Hey, Fish! Who ya got with ya?" A man around my height asked. He was bald with a white mustache.
"Oh! This is Lacey. She's a friend of my wife's." He grinned. "I was gonna show her the arena." Mike grinned. "Okay! They're getting ready to take out a Zamboney to clean the ice, if you wanna hop on." He grinned at me. "Awesome!" I said.
"I'll show you to it and go grab my skates." Mike said, leading me through the hallways of the arena. We reached the ice and he lead me to another door. "Hey, Scott?" He called. A man stuck his head out from around the corner.
"Hey! Fish! What's happening?" Scott grinned, walking toward us. He had a hoodie on and thick boots. "Can you take Lacey here out on the zamboney?" Mike asked.
"Yeah! Just about to head out." He grinned. "I'll be in the stands watching." Mike grinned at me. "Okay!" I said, warily following Scott. "Where you from?" He asked me. "I'm from Texas." I grinned as he lead me down another hallway.
"That's awesome! I've got a few friends from down there." He grinned at me. "Really? Cool." He lead me to a giant hunk of metal with wheels. "Here she is. Let me help you on!" He grinned, gently grabbing my hand.
He lead me up onto one of the chairs and I sat down, crossing my legs. "Ready to go, chief?" He grinned. "Yes sir."
I felt it move under me and jumped slightly. He laughed at me and we went onto the ice. I glanced around the arena, smiling and imagining how it would look if it were full. I spotted Mike in the second row, he looked furious as he was talking on the phone.
I glanced at Scott as he whistled, happily oblivious to Mike. I just ignored my feelings and focused on enjoying the ride.
We went a few loops around the ice and Scott even did a doughnut! I laughed as we went in a circle.
When we were done, Scott let me off to the door where Mike was waiting. "Ready to go home?" He asked me with a grin. "If you promise to teach me how to skate sometime." I shot back.
"Deal! I'm just gonna meet up with Carrie. You might want to call your mom. She's probably worried about you." He grinned, but I could tell he was hiding something.
"Could you drop me back at the hospital?" I asked. "If you don't mind if course." He looked at me almost guiltily for a second before hiding it. "Yeah! Of course! We'll just hop in my truck." We walked out the back of the arena and to a big silver truck.
He opened the door for me and I climbed in before he shut the door. "Thanks." I grinned. "No problem! Ready to go?" He asked as I buckled my seatbelt. "Yeah!" I grinned.
We arrived at the hospital and he let me off in the front. "Thanks, Mike! It was so nice to meet you." I grinned. "Nice to meet you too! See you around. And I'll give you some skating lessons sometime, promise!" He laughed before pulling away.
I walked into the hospital and took the elevator up to my mom's room.
