Miranda POV
I was rapidly pacing back and forth, waiting for the police when I stepped on something wet and sticky with my foot.
Shivering, I picked it up, it was a rag! I smelled something sweet and knew it was chloroform! I paced, sickened with dread, trying to figure out how the hell this happened.
I stopped pacing when I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder. "Miranda?" It was Kimberly. I didn't say anything as I turned around, crying into her shoulder.
"How did this happen? I don't understand!" I yelled in anger. "I don't know. It will be okay. You have to stay calm for Lacey okay?" Kimberly asked me. It sounded like she was comforting a baby, but it made me feel a little bit better.
We walked up to her room, Kimberly's arm around my shoulder, to see if we could find anything useful. I looked into the trash can and found three or four notes wadded up.
"There's the notes." I said in a hushed whisper. I opened up all of them, my tear coming faster. They were all threats toward the both of us! Me and Lacey!
"Miranda. You might want to look at this." Kimberly said, she was over by the window. Another note! Except this was scratched into the wood!
"We warned you." Is what it said, I shivered. I heard sirens in the distance and sighed unhappily. Walking back out of the room, I went downstairs to look at the tire tracks.
They lead away from the house and down the back yard. I sat down in frustration on the porch as the police swarmed my house. Kimberly lead me over to the couch and a detective started to talk to me.
"Has she been getting any sort of threats?" The detective asked me. "I...In the trashcan upstairs." I mumbled.
They left and said that they'd keep us updated. I numbly laid back on the couch, not knowing what to do.
Reid and Neil arrived shortly, trying to distract me, but it was no use. I just stared at the wall, unsure of what to do.
I was about to suggest going outside to look more when my phone rang.
There was a text message from an unknown number. "Miranda Lambert." Was all it said.
"Who is this?" I replied.
"You won't know who I am. But I have Lacey."
"Where is she!? I'm going to call you!"
"That's not a good idea. Think of Lacey."
"Fine. What do I have to do."
"Miranda!" Kimberly yelled, trying to get my attention. "What!?" I yelled back. Kimberly shrunk back.
"Sorry." I said, showing her the phone.
"Tell anyone and she's dead. Now you will do what I say."
"I need $600,000 by tomorrow night. I'm sure you can afford that much. After all, you're Miranda Lambert."
"Fine."
"Meet me downtown in the abandoned train station at midnight. Do not be late."
My hands shook as I dropped my phone. I watched it bounce against the table, fall to the floor, and I didn't move.
