Chapter 123

*First person pov*

"Alright!! Everybody follow me!!" Naruto yells. We all stay silent for a while. "Hey listen Naruto, you know that I happen to be the squad leader! Well, not like it's a big deal..." Shikamaru says. Naruto turns to Shikamaru, annoyed that he isn't leading. "You sure you can handle it? You're not so trustworthy." Naruto asks, trying to get the hint across to Shikamaru that he wants to lead. "Well, aren't you boss-facing Naruto? But, you're right. It doesn't feel right with us listening to Shikamaru's orders." Kib says. "Shikamaru is chunin while were mere genin, we got no choice. Also, what I heard, his IQ is over 200. I feel safe trusting his choices." I speak up. Keiko, who finally harvested enough gloom shrooms, came out of the gloom corner. "Keiko also believes in Shikamaru-nii." Keiko says as she flies on top of my head, playing with my hair. "Tell us the basic strategies and plans. According to what we heard, there seem to be enemies and possible ambushes." Neji asks Shikamaru. "Anyways, since this is an rescue mission and we are the pursuers, which means it's easy for our enemies to get their first strike on us. So! We'll now decide on the squad formation that is more suitable to react to sudden strikings. If anyone were to move on their own and ignore my orders, it might end up killing us all! We'll proceed in a single line formation. First things first: Kiba will be in the most crucial position to scout forward. Kiba, you're always traveling all year around the fire nation, and you know our terrain very well. Also, you've got a keen sense of smell, so it'll make it easier to track Sasuke... This is also means that it's easier to detect booby traps from the enemies scent. The second is me, the squad leader. I can give orders according to the situation behind Kiba, and everybody behind me can see my hand signs. Third is Naruto and fourth is Keiko and Ciel. They have quick reactions so it's best to keep them in a position where they can assist front or back. They'll be the cover and assistance, especially since Naruto has his shadow clones and Ciel can all sorts of jutsu and fly through Keiko. Fifth is Choji. He doesn't have the speed but he has the most hit power in our squad. Me, Kiba, Naruto, Ciel, and Keiko will create openings, and Choji will charge in to finish the game. Lastly, I'll place Neji on the squads tail. I'll let you, Neji, handle the most difficult task of the rear scout. With your Byakugan, you can always check for the squad's blind spots." Shikamaru tells us. He grabs out a sheet of paper and pencil out of nowhere. "All right, I'll explain further more with this drawing. Watch this." Shikamaru tells us. He draws up in the formation and I gotta say, they were pretty good since he drew it up real fast. But my drawing was a little more detailed... I wonder why. "Take a look at the field vision you should focus on. Kiba will focus on the forward position, and I'll spread my sight at an wider angle. Naruto will cover the left, Keiko and Ciel will cover above, Choji the right, Neji, I'll ask you to take up the entire rear section with your byakugan. Oh, and I'd like to check our total squad strength. Everyone, let me check each of your weapons and equipment. I'll finish in three minutes. Any questions?" Shikamaru asks. Naruto shakes his head as well as Keiko. "I don't have any." I reply, smiling at him a bit. "Well, if you got nothing to say, I guess I'll finish up with one more important thing. Sasuke's not a very close friend of mine... Nor is he someone important. However, he is a fellow shinobi from the hidden leaf, just like me and you. He's our comrade! This is why we'll risk our lives for him. This is the way of the leaf. Even someone like me can't goof off things like this. I'm responsible for all of your lives." Shikamaru finishes. We were all silent for a few seconds. "Keiko thinks he deserved that title chunin..." Keiko says. "Agreed." Me and Kiba say at the same time. "Alright, we'll head out as soon as our equipment is check is finished. Everybody them out." Shikamaru tells us. I freeze when I realized that my...*ahem* pads are still in there. I pull out my bag and quickly shoved the pads in my pocket. "Ciel, what did you just hide?" I hear Shikamaru ask me and I freeze. "Uh, nothing." I tell him. "Ciel, we are on A-rank mission. Keeping stuff from your teammates will probably lead them to death. Tell me." Shikamaru tells me. "Fine, lend me your ear." I tell him, trying my hardest not to blush out of embarrassment. Shikamaru raises a brow. "Why? I'm pretty sure this is a thing you can tell all of us." Shikamaru says. "Just do it!" I hiss. He shrugs and walks over to me. "It's my pads." I whisper to him. He blushes and awkwardly coughs. "Uh, well. False alarm guys." He says, still blushing. "Now I'm curious about what Ciel has..." Naruto mumbles. We checked our equipment and we started heading out, only to be stopped by Pinky. "Wait!" Pinky yells. "Sakura-chan..." Naruto trails off. "I heard the story from the Hokage. I'm sorry, but I can't take you to the mission. Even you couldn't convince Sasuke, same with Ciel." Shikamaru says. "Ciel-kun tried to convince Sasuke-kun?" Pinky asked softly. "Yeah, I met him shortly after you from what I hear from the time you tried to convince him. The Duckbutt had to be an ass and knock me out." I tell Pinky. "It seems like we gotta force him to understand. Sakura, your job is done." Shikamaru tells Pinky. Tears well up in her eyes. "What?! Sakura-chan and Ciel had already met Sasuke?!" Naruto shouts. Pinky's tears finally spilled, and sobs. "Naruto... I beg of you! Please....... Please bring Sasuke-kun back!! I couldn't do it.... I couldn't stop him! Ciel-kun couldn't do it either.... The only person who can probably save Sasuke-kun now is you.... Naruto.... Only you....." Pinky cries. I look over at Naruto and he was just heartbroken. He forces a closed eyed smile. "Sakura-chan, you really like Sasuke huh? I know how much pain you're in because of Sasuke, I can understand." Naruto says, still smiling. Pinky starts to sob harder and hugs herself. "Naruto.... thank you...." Pinky tells Naruto. Naruto gives Pinky a closed eyed smile and thumbs up. "Don't worry! I'll bring him back! Promise of a lifetime!" Naruto exclaims. "Hey Naruto! You sure you can keep a promise like that?" Kiba asks. Punch him in da dick for ruining this good moment. Nope. "Heh! I won't take back my words. That's my ninja way!" Naruto tells him, smiling still. "Alright! Let's go!" Naruto shouts. Shikamaru stays silent for a second. "Well, we've wasted quite a bit of time. Let's hurry." Shikamaru says. I give him the upside down Farlan salute (Pic above). "Aye sir!" I shout. Keiko notices my actions and does the same. "What is that?" Neji asks. "A salute! I've always wanted to salute a person like this! Hehehe!" I chirp, giving him a closed eyed grin. "C'mon, we're wasting time. Let's go." Shikamaru says. "Aye sir!" I yell again with the same salute, except this time with Keiko. We all leave the Konoha gates, leaving Lee and Pinky behind.
