Life is the Long Game

Chapter 3

Maya's POV:

At the end of the day, we head straight back to Riley's as Amelie isn't due to be picked up for another hour and a half.
When we pull up, Josh's car is parked outside. A smile is immediately on my face. I have really missed him today.
"Hey guys, Josh is here!" I say.
"Okay cool!" Lucas says and the three of us all rush up into the house.
"Josh?" I call out, expecting to see him sat on the couch, only he isn't.
"Uncle Josh, you here?" Riley calls out.
"Guys, I'm in here!" He replies and I rush to where he is. Amelie's nursery. He is sat on the rocking chair with Amelie in his arms rocking her back and forth.
"Amelie! W-what is she doing home?" Riley asks.
"Morgan called, she didn't want to distract you at school, Amelie had a fever and a cold. I took an, interesting, trip to the drug store and bought some infant Calpol for her and her fever has gone down quite a bit, but she is still full of cold." He explains.
"Thanks, Josh." Lucas says, taking Amelie from him.
"Hey baby girl, you not feeling to great, huh? It's okay, Daddy's here now, you're gonna be just fine." Lucas then coos over her.
"I have to admit Ranger Rick, for a huckleberry, you are very good with your lil girl." I compliment him.
"Thanks."
"Thank you Uncle Josh for looking after Amelie, I really appreciate it." Riley tells him, gratefully.
"We are just gonna put Amelie to bed, then we'll be back out."
"Okay." I take Josh's hand and we go and sit in the living room.
"Hey, you're really good for helping Riley and Lucas out today." I tell him.
"It is nothing, I love looking after Amelie."
"So you had a good time then, oh and what did you mean by an 'interesting' visit to the drug store?" I ask curiously.
"Not here." He says, I begin to grow concerned.
"Riles! We are gonna go out for a while, we'll be back later!" I yell.
"See ya!"
I take Josh's hand and we walk to our hidden spot.
"So, tell me!" I demand.
"Well, I went into the store holding Amelie in my arms, I went over to the baby medicine aisle when this pharmacist stared using Amelie as an excuse to hit on me, then she was bad mouthing teen pregnancy and saying that age gap relationships are disgusting. Then, I told her I was engaged, then she tried to kiss me, but she didn't even reach my lips before I told her to back off, I paid, then as I exited I told her that you were 3 years younger and that Riley was 16." He sighed.
That was a lot of information.
"Okay, it's sounds like you handled it perfectly."
"Thanks." He looks worried.
"What's wrong? You can tell me anything, you know that."
"I-I just don't think we have seen the last of her."
"I'd like to see her try and mess with me."
"And that is why I love you." He kisses me.
"We should have a date night." I say breaking the kiss.
"But I thought you said we'd go back to Riley's."
"It's okay, I'll text her and cancel."
"Okay. Wanna go back to your place for you to change?"
"Please."
We head back to my place.
"Dad? You here?" I call out for him, I don't see him a lot at the moment, work is really busy for him. He doesn't reply, so I take it that he isn't here.
"I'm gonna go change."
I take myself off to get changed and when I come out, Josh is sat staring into space.
"Hey Josh." I interrupt his daydream.
"Hey, you look beautiful."
"Thanks."
I sit on his lap and kiss him and we begin to make out. When our make out session is over, I go and get my handbag, and we leave. When we get to the car, I notice in the reflection, that I have a bright hickey on my neck.
"Shit Josh."
"What did I do?"
"I have a giant hickey on my neck!"
"So? At least everyone will know you're taken!"
"I guess, but then I guess that means you'll be needing one too!"
"Okay."
We hop in the car and have a slightly shorter make out session, leaving Josh an identical love bite to mine.
We eventually have a date and a great evening. I am so looking forward to spending the rest of my life with him.
