Maya's POV:"Maya? Maya!" I feel someone shaking me. It's Farkle.
"F-Farkle?" I sit up, we are on the highway to the hospital still.
"Maya, you fell asleep. I you were talking in your sleep, crying for Riley." He explains to me.
"Wait, you mean it was all a dream, she is still alive? And Lucas is still alive?"
"Yes. They are alive, and they are going to stay that way."
I start crying uncontrollably.
"Farkle, are you okay to drive?" I hear Josh ask from the front.
"Yeah." Then Josh pulls over and Josh sits in the back with me, holding me tightly.
"I'm scared Josh. I'm really scared. I can't loose her, I won't cope." I whisper into his chest.
"You won't loose her. She isn't going to die." He says, trying to convince himself as much as me.
"Hey guys, we're here." Farkle calls from the front, as he pulls into a parking space. When the car has stopped, Josh helps me get Amelie out of the car and I ring Lucas.
L: Maya, are you here yet?
M: Just arrived, where are you?
L: We're on the 5th floor.
M: Okay.
I hang up and we hurry up to Lucas.
He is sat on a bench in the waiting room when I arrive, as I ran ahead if the rest.
"Lucas! How is she?"
"I don't know, she still isn't out of surgery. That was hours ago. I was really confused by it all."
"I'll go find a doctor." I suggest.
"Okay."
"Oh and by the way, did you get checked out?" I ask him.
"Yeah, just a few broken ribs and bruising. I have to take it steady though as the break is resting on my left lung."
"Okay. And there is someone who has been missing you come to see you." I tell him.
"Amelie!" He says happily, as I walk out the room and Enid pushes Amelie in her stroller through the doors, followed by Farkle and Josh, who grabs my hand and comes with me. We walk up to the reception area and wait for the receptionist to notice us.
"Hi! How can I help you today?"
"What can you please tell me about our Niece, Riley Matthews? She was brought in after the plane crash?" I say, Josh gives me a confused smirk.
"Hold on one moment, I'll see what I can do." The receptionist says and we step back.
"Our Niece?" He asks me.
"If I said 'best friend' he would have ignored me. And technically, she is. And officially she is in October!" I point out.
"You'll be Maya Matthews."
"Finally."
"Excuse me? Ma'am, Sir? Family of Riley Matthews, yes?" A doctor approaches us. We nod.
"Hi, I'm Dr Halstead, Miss Matthews's doctor." He introduces himself.
"Is she okay?" Josh asks immediately.
"Miss Matthews has just come out of surgery. She had a bleed in the abdomen, and severe damage to one of her kidneys, and it was safest to remove it all together. However there were other complications which I will explain in a moment. She also had a bleed on the spinal cord, and swelling on the brain when she first arrived, which was treated successfully without any short term, long term or permanent damage. However, there is something that was not successful during the second operation-"
"What? What is it?" Josh interrupts.
"Were you aware of Miss Matthews condition?"
"What condition?"
"Who is closest to Miss Matthews, as I'd like to talk to them alone?"
"Maya." I hear a voice behind us say. It's Lucas.
"Lucas, are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm gonna stay with Amelie. You've known Riley forever. You're best friends."
"Okay. Thank you." I turn back to the doctor.
"I am closest."
"Okay, if you could com wit me?" He leads me to what I can only presume is his office.
"The complications Miss Matthews experienced in the second operation, were a miscarriage."
"What?" I ask in barely a whisper.
"Miss Matthews was 3 weeks along. We tried all we could to save it, but it was to undeveloped, it didn't even have limbs and saving it would leave many long term problems, the chance of the child having problems at birth or in development would be very high, and it would be highly likely to cause so much damage to the uterus, that in the long run, the chance that a hysterectomy would be needed is almost inevitable. Therefore, you can see that removing was the best option."
"And you feel it would be best for me to tell Riley?"
"Yes, please."
"Okay. When will she be awake?"
"Very soon the anaesthetic will be wearing off, she'll awake then."
"Thank you for saving my best friend."
"I though you said that she was you niece?"
"It's complicated."
"I'm intrigued, please explain, I have some time."
"Well, basically. Riley's dad was in his late teens when his parents had their fourth child, Josh. He is only 3 years older than Riley and I. She is my best friend, and I have practically been raised by Riley's parents, so obviously we met a few times. Then I fell for him and then years after crushing on him, and me spending weeks in the hospital, critical, after trying to end, we finally got together, and we are engaged to be married on my eighteenth birthday, in October. So in theory, I am already her aunt, and I will officially be her Aunt then."
"I see. Well congratulations, I wish you all the best for a long and happy marriage. You make a wonderful couple."
"Thank you. I'm going to see if Riley is awake."
"She is in room 1831." I nod in thanks and I make my way to Riley's room, to tell her something no one wants to hear..Haha! April Fools! Riley isn't dead, nor is Lucas! But they were gonna have a baby and that's dead. So yeah... Hopefully I got ya on that one!
