Life is the Long Game

Chapter 75

Josh's POV:

I've finished at college for the day, so I'm on my way to the store to get some dessert for Maya as she forgot. She's so forgetful, I love it, it's so adorable. I can't wait to get home and see her, we didn't have a chance to see each other today at school so I've really missed her. It's crazy how I can't go 6 hours without seeing her, I just love her so much, I have done since I was 16. As I drive to the store, I drive passed our spot, where we went and I told her how I felt about her, it's where Maya goes when she's upset because she knows I'm the only person who will find her, I'm the same, and we both spent a lot of time there, together and alone after we lost Olympia, and we had our first wedding anniversary date there. I soon arrive at the store and I enter it, I get two melt in the middle chocolate puddings as I know how much we both love chocolate, and I also grab Maya a bouquet, because why not? I pay at the check out and call Maya.
M: Husband.
J: Wife.
M: You on your way home now?
J: Yeah, I'm just coming out of the store, I'll be back soon.
M: Okay.
J: Ow. Sorry.
I accidentally brush passed a large, bald guy.
M: What? Are you okay?
J: Yeah, I'm fine, I just walked into someone and it hurt that's all.
M: You know I think you may be as klutzy as your niece.
J: Ha, Ha, funny.
M: Anyway, hurry home, I've got a surprise for you!
J: Oooh, what is it?
M: You'll have to get home and find out.
J: Okay, I'm nearly at my car.
M: Okay, drive safe.
J: I wi-sorry dude.
Damn it, I need to watch where I'm going.
M: Did you walk into someone again?
J: P-possibly.
M: Are you okay?
J: Uh, yeah, I'm sure I'm f-fine.
M: Okay, well come home safe.
J: Yes wife, I-I will.
M: I love you.
J: I love y-
*thud*
Something hits me around the head, pushing me to the ground.
M: Josh?
M: Josh! Talk to me! What's happening?
J: M-Maya, call c-c-cops, I-I l-love you...
I stutter out in pain, panic and fear. My speech is all slurred, why?
M: Josh? I love you. Josh?
Her voice cracks as she speaks, I look up from the ground, I see her.

Anger boils inside of me. She stamps her stiletto heal onto my phone until it's crushed.
"Please stop, Maya and I lost our daughter because of you, isn't that enough?" I cry, she laughs.
"Nope. Like I've said in the past, you will be mine, one way or another." She spits. I try to get to my feet but I can't feel them, and she's tied them up. Soon, my arms go numb also. I think I've been drugged. Rapidly, everything in my body goes numb, and it slowly creeps to my head, making me feel sleepy. I hope Maya called the cops. I try to keep my eyes open, but I can't. She's watching me, she's got a van open, I'm guessing she's gonna put me in it.
My last thought before I pass out: My Gorgeous Maya...

Maya's POV:

The police have said the CCTV footage shows him being put in a van, they have a registration plate but they can't find the car anywhere. I'm staying at Cory and Topanga's, I feel safer I guess, but I want to go home, but the police said it's safe to be here. I've never seen Cory or Topanga so... lost, they are distraught, but they are keeping a brave face for Auggie and Ava, we haven't told them. They think Josh has gone on a school trip and I'm lonely at home and I don't want to intrude on Riley and Lucas and Amelie. Riley's coping surprisingly well though. I'm not. I'm not doing anything but trying to help find my husband, but I'm useless. I'm so tired, worried and devastated, it's making me ill.
"Josh, baby please come back to us. I'm not sure how much longer I can keep this up. I need you, we need you. And you promised me you'd never leave me, so don't break your promise. I love you so much, so so much." I say, sat on the roof, freezing cold, but I like the cold tonight, it's comforting. I get out my phone and ring his phone to hear his voice on the voicemail.
"I love you so much Joshua. I need you back, we need you. I love you. I can't do this without you. It takes two to play the Long Game of life remember? Life is the Long Game so you are gonna come home to us and live it out. I love you Josh." I say, my voice shaky. And with me saying that, there it was, the first kick, my little secret, our baby's first kick...
