Chapter 32

Maya' s POV:

As I walk into Riley' s hospital room, a feeling of fear overcomes me. How an I supposed to tell my best friend that her baby died? I notice that Riley is awake, so I shake my fear as off, I have to be strong for her.
I gasp when I get close to her, she looks so pale and fragile. This is gonna break my heart just as much as it will hers.
"Maya?" She says in a weak whisper.
"I'm right here Riley, don't worry." I squeeze her hand.
"Riley, I-I need to tell you something." I stutter, nervously.
"What is it Maya? Is Lucas okay?"
"Lucas is fine. I just need you to listen carefully and stay calm." She nods. "So, I spoke to your doctor, and he asked me if I knew of your condition, do you know what he meant?" She shakes her head no. "Riley, what he meant by condition, was pregnant."
"I'm pregnant?" I give her a sympathetic and sorrowful look. "Sweetie, there were some complications during your second operation. The doctor said it was too dangerous to save the baby. I'm sorry Riley, you had a miscarriage." By this point we both had tears streaming down our faces.
"How-how, far along was I?" She barely whispers.
"3 weeks." She nods slowly, before patting the bed for me to sit with her. I sit close to her and hold her tightly. Her cries become a sound of agonising pain of her loss.
"Do you want me to get Lucas?"
"No. I don't want him to know. He's been through so much, what with his Mom and Dad. And he's only just recovered from losing Zay, I can't do this to him."
"I understand."
"Maya I really want my Mommy."
"I'll see if she's here yet."
"Is Amelie here?"
"Yeah."
"Could you get her too?"
"Of course."
I jump off the bed and walk out into the waiting room. Topanga isn't here yet.
"Hey, Riley is asking for Amelie and Topanga." I tell Farkle and Josh, who are the only ones in here with Amelie.
"Okay. Enid just took Lucas to get a drink." Farkle tells me as I get Amelie from her stroller.
"I'm going to call Topanga too, I'll see you soon." I say and go into the corridor to ring Mrs Matthews.
T: Hello?
M: Topanga, it's Maya, do you know how far from the hospital you are?
T: About 40 minutes away, why?
M: Um, Riley had a miscarriage, she was 3 weeks but she didn't know and I just had to tell her. She only want you and I knowing. She's asking for you.
T: Oh my God, we'll be there ASAP. Bye Maya.
M: Bye.
I hang up and go back to Riley with Amelie.
"Hey beautiful." She says to her oblivious daughter.
"Your Mom isn't here yet, she'll be here soon. I'll give you and Amelie some space." I suggest.
"Okay, thank you Maya."
"Its alright Riley."
"Love you Peaches."
"Love you too Pumpkin." Then I walk out into the corridor, and lean against a wall, and sigh of relief before going back to the waiting room and curling up in a ball on Josh' s lap.
