Life is the Long Game

Chapter 56

*a week later*

Maya's POV:

I've still been getting the nightmares, so to stop them, I haven't slept in 3 days but Josh doesn't know, another thing he doesn't know, I have continued to cut, I am going to be a terrible mother. And on top of how I feel from the lack of sleep and the lost blood from the cuts, I have morning sickness, horrid and bad morning sickness, but it isn't morning sickness, it is anytime I smell or eat anything sickness, so yeah I feel really ill, but no one can know, because I can deal with it myself. On my own.
"Maya? It's time for school." My thoughts are interrupted by Riley knocking on my front door, Josh is at school early again.
"Yeah, I'm ready and coming. Sorry." I call our picking up my bag which I really heavy. I grab my keys and go out to Riley and Lucas.
"Hey guys, sorry about that. Riles, can you hold my bag for me while I lock the door?" I ask heaving her my bag.
"Maya! This is way to heavy for you, you can't life this in y-" She tells me off, quickly.
"Riley, shut up." I hiss quietly, not wanting Lucas to hear and know, her eyes grow wide quickly.
"What do you mean Riles?" Lucas asks.
"Nothing, Maya just pulled some muscles in her back at the gym with the other day, and the weight of her bag will only make it worse." Riley says very convincingly.
"Oh okay. I'll hold your bag for you, if you want?" He bus it and offers.
"Thanks Lucas. But I'll be fine until we get to school, then I can put my books on my locker." I say and Riley frowns at me.
"Okay. Well let's get to school then. You haven't got long here left." Lucas continues.
"Peaches I'm going to miss you so much. How many weeks do we have together?" Riley asks as we reach the car.
"Still another 4 Riles. And you have baby daddy huckleberry to keep you company. And Farkle." I chuckle lightly, but it hurts so I stop.
When we get to school I throw up again almost immediately, luckily no one saw though. Then I make my way to lessons.

About half way through the day, I feel queazy again, and my cuts are burning, so I go to get up to ask if I can be excused from class for a moment, and I as soon as I rise I feel light-headed and dizzy.

Riley's POV:

I am sat in class when I notice Maya doesn't look too good. I watch her go to stand up, she is up for only a moment before, *thud*. She collapses onto the floor, unconscious.
"Maya!" I cry rushing over to her, I shake for her to wake up but she format respond, then I remember the baby.
"Someone call 911!" I cry, panicking as a crowd of the class begins to gather.
"Maya, wake up. Please." I beg, over and over again until the ambulance arrives.
"What happened?" They ask.
"She stood up, then collapsed." I say as I watch them place her on the gurney. I follow them out to the ambulance alone.
"I'm sorry ma'am but you can only ride of she is family." The paramedic states, at first I think I won't be able to go with her then I see her ring.
"Yeah, I am. She's my aunt." I explain and the paramedic gives me a confused look but nods.
"You should know she is pregnant." I inform the paramedic.
"How come you didn't tell us before?"
"Only, she, my uncle and I know. Sorry."
"I understand. How far along is she?"
"About 6 weeks I think. And she hasn't been sleeping or eating well, the pregnancy has affected her sleep and she throws up almost anything she eats. That's all I know." I explain.
"What about these?" They ask, revealing a load of cuts on her arms and ankles and hips. Everywhere.
"I thought she was clean." I state, I'm so shocked.
The paramedic asks me a few more questions then we are at the hospital.
"18 year old, female, 6 weeks pregnant collapsed before arrival." The paramedic says to the doctors and nurses, along with a bunch of things I don't understand. I rush behind them.
"I'm sorry ma'am. You can't go any further, we'll tell you when you can see the patient." A nurse says so I take a seat in the waiting area, and immediately call Uncle Josh.
J: Hey Riles, what's up? Shouldn't you be in class right now?
R: It's Maya.
J: Are you at the hospital?
R: Yeah, the usual one.
J: I'm already on my way. Keep my posted. Bye Riles.
R: Will do. Bye.
I could hear the pain and worry in his voice, and I literally heard him run to his car and get in and start the engine, in that short time.
About 5 minutes later he arrives.
"Where is she?" He asks rushing up to me.
"In there. But we can't go in." I say and he hugs me.
"I think I broke a load of laws." He tells me referring to his driving.
"Yeah you were quick."
"Riley. I'm scared. I can't loose them."
"Me too. Neither can I."
And I mean it. I need Maya, and I need her strength, and I know if something happens to that baby, then she will loose that. God I'm scared...
