"Well, I think we're just about done" Bridgette smiled at Bruno. "Thank you, Valentina, for your assistance, I think Analiese might be in need of your services" She dismissed me.
I didn't roll my eyes, I was glad I came in today. It was nice to see what a real international musician was like – one who wasn't up their own ass and didn't get their management to deliver their hits, it was refreshing.
"Sure" I picked up my notepad and my things about to leave the room and do some important stuff, like photocopying.
"It was nice to meet you, Valentina" Bruno interrupted, getting up and offering me his hand. It all happened so fast and I was unsure on how to react so I was just looking at his hand. But eventually my brain caught up with things and I moved my gaze away from his waiting hand.
With a polite response in my mind I was ready to say it until I looked into his eyes. Like really looked. His eyes were so much more beautiful up close, like it had soul in it, like he's experienced the world and all it's had to offer. Then he smiled at me, teeth pearly white, he really had a lovely smile.
It took a lot of concentration but I managed to find that reply I had forgotten. "You too" I said quickly trying to keep my voice level and walked out.
Oh my God, what just happened? Did he just sweep me off my feet?
"How did you find observing the interview?" Analiese was by my side as soon as I made it out the room.
I closed my eyes momentarily to get a grip. I was at work, he was this international singer who literally made money from singing love songs to millions of girls.
Get a fucking grip, Tina.
"Really interesting. It was like Bridgette was manipulating the situation, applying the right amount of pressure on the sensitive stuff, rephrasing the way she asked a question that otherwise would be offensive or too invasive." I had to give my praise to her when it came to interviews. She was still a bitch though.
"Perfect" Analiese smiled and her gaze averted to behind me. I turned around to see Bruno walk up to us. "Bruno" Analiese smiled, she and Bruno hugged like they were good old chums and why wouldn't they be? He was the biggest selling musician last year and she was the editor in chief of one of America's best selling magazines, they probably wined and dined together in the Waldorf comparing holidays to the Fiji Islands whereas a trip to Disney World would excite the shit out of me.
"Ana, thanks for agreeing to have me on such short notice" He said appreciatively and snuck a look to me and back to her. This didn't go unnoticed by Analiese, nothing goes unnoticed by the editor and chief of Mode Magazine.
"It's our pleasure, how can we say no to the world's biggest singer?"
"Ya can't" Bruno joked.
He probably wanted to catch up with Ana and I wasn't about to be a third wheel. I should get going anyway and sleep for about five hundred days.
"If there isn't anything else you want me to do today, I think I'll head home..." I said to Analiese who smiled her goodbye and I went to the coat peg.
I heard quick footsteps behind me. Who was it, Bridgette to scold me on her latte which wasn't up to her usual standards? Was there not enough cream? Did the soy taste like full fat? I've heard it all. I turned around and was met with deep brown eyes and a mega-watt smile that must have broken hearts all around the world.
"Hey" I breathed, I couldn't help it if I sounded a bit confused, why does Bruno Mars want to talk to me?
"Hey" He replied smiling wider. "Valentina."
I really didn't like that name.
"Actually, it's just Tina..." I had to correct him even though he'll probably forget as soon as he leaves the building; he had no reason to remember it anyway.
"Oh, that's cool too, just that Brid–" Bruno started to explain and pointed to Bridgette's door, I could tell he was the kind of guy to use his hands to communicate a lot.
"–yeah, she hasn't called me that since she first started working here..." I said, well lied. I couldn't very well tell him that she called me that to piss me off, could I? "Do you need something?" I decided that would be the only logical reason he would be talking to me.
"Uh no, just wanted to say...good interview" He flashed a double thumbs up at me and I raised my eyebrow up a bit at the gesture. "Not that you were the one doing the interviewing or anything..."
"Yeah, I was more of the silent observer slash water bringer" I smiled sarcastically. "Tough role that is"
"Yeah I can tell" He replied with the same amount of sarcasm. "Well, anyway, Tina. Just thought I'd give you these" He put what looked like laminated passes in my hand, I read over the top one Bruno Mars special performance at the Silent Sparks Venue.
Backstage passes for his concert?
"Because I noticed you were such a big fan of my music" He answered like he had just read my thoughts on why he had given me tickets to his concert. His voice oozed the optimum amount of sarcasm but he didn't sound bitter or anything.
"I'm sorry" I couldn't help but laugh, I knew I hadn't of been convincing when it came to knowing his music and Bruno must not have minded as he was laughing as well. He rubbed his bare arm with his hand and I found myself looking at his tattoo there.
Was that an anchor or something?
"Nothing to apologise for, I'm just trying to convert you"
"Really?" I looked at the passes, there were four of them. The girls were gonna flip.
"No, I'm joking, you don't have to come, but I'm expecting you to, you might even enjoy yourself...or you can like sell them or something...I'd sell them" He admitted. He was talking himself into a circle, maybe he wasn't the best spokesperson for selling his concert to me.
"I am NOT going to sell these, I'll totally be there, and I have some friends who are big fans of yours. They'll be stoked"
"It's like a combined birthday present extravaganza." He offered.
"Yeah...now I don't have to buy them shit until Christmas" I smiled brightly, I was so glad I came in today. "I'm excited to see what you're like in concert"
"Really?"
"Yeah, the way you talk about it, about music, it's like you're in love" I said honestly not caring how cheesy it sounded coming from my mouth.
Bruno chuckled. "Yeah, I'm totally in love with performing. Trust me, you won't regret going."
