"Shit...what'd I miss?" Bruno appeared beside me as I watched the events unfold in front of me.
He casually took a swig out of a beer bottle. One of these days I have to ask where the hell he always disappears to. But not now, there were more pressing matters going on right now.
Brian was on one knee holding a ring in front of Raye.
Yeah, he had done that.
On my birthday.
"...is he...?" Kendra asked no one in particular. It was probably the quietest I've ever heard her in the four years I've known her.
"YES!" Raye cried letting Brian slip the ring on her fourth finger.
Holy shit, had that just happened?
"No fucking way..." Kendra murmured. She took the words out of my mouth.
Literally.
I was speechless.
It was when everyone that was still here started to clap and cheer that I found my voice.
"Did you know Brian was going to propose?" I turned to Bruno because how could he not tell me about that? Brian just fucking asked my best friend to marry him, to be his wife!
"No..." He looked back to me then back to the events in front of us. "...but it's fucking awesome!" Bruno yelled and jogged up to Brian and the others crowding around him and Raye.
Soon enough Raye broke from the crowd and ran up to me and Kendra showing us her ring.
"Jeez, that's a shiner." Kendra commented.
"I can't believe that just happened!" Raye smiled so bright, she looked elated.
"Neither can I..." I admitted, one of my closest friends just got engaged, ENGAGED. I couldn't wrap my head around what just happened but I had to be supportive though I didn't know exactly how I felt. I'm happy, I should be happy, right? "But I'm so happy for you!" I hugged Raye tight then Brian when he eventually joined us.
"Sorry, for hijacking your party there, T." Brian apologized but smiled broadly putting his arm around his fiancé.
Yeah, fiancé.
"Don't apologize. That was...that was romantic." I smiled, still feeling shell shocked. I think I need a drink.
"Who knew you had it in you?" Kendra patted Brian on the back.
Everyone was all smiles as Fara walked up to us.
Now where was she when all this shit went down?
"Man, there was a long cue for the bathroom..." She smiled at all of us and then it lowered noticing something was up "...what did I miss?"
-
I can't remember how me and Bruno ended up back at his place because last night is a little bit of a blur.
Being fired, surprise party, Brian proposing to Raye...
Okay, not that much of a blur, though I couldn't help but feel like I was missing something.
This nagging feeling.
Work.
Shit.
Last night was just supposed to be a movie and dinner date not a party. I had to be at Mode in...I looked at the alarm clock on the dresser...forty-five minutes, great.
