I was glad I ended up going to coffee with Duncan.
He really was like I perceived him to be after the interview: selfless, caring, and a total open book, which was refreshing, really refreshing. We stayed at the coffee shop until both our coffees became cold, not that we noticed.
He spoke about his time helping out in New Orleans after the hurricane, surfing in Australia with some big names on the surf circuit who I had no clue about. In turn I spoke about my life in L.A. -college, the string of jobs I've had before I got to Mode, all that stuff.
We exchanged numbers and before we went our separate ways he said he was going to convince me to come surfing with him...fat chance.
"Well sorry for thinking the formation of music videos were like how they were portrayed on MTV" Fara laughed as she sat down on Phil's couch, we were all hanging out at his house the following week. She handed me a glass of whatever drink she got me, maybe I shouldn't have told her to surprise me.
"What – that all filming is done in half an hour and the final product is finished, gift wrapped perfectly?" Ryan asked with a smirk.
"Don't exaggerate" Fara raised her eyebrow at him.
"You missed out, Tina" Phil said to me.
"They'll be plenty of music videos to come, Philip" I reply. "Compared to how many times I can actually interview and write an article..."
I had been a bit nervy since I handed in my article to Analiese five days earlier; she hasn't said anything to me since, at all. A 'well done' or a 'that sucked major balls' would be suffice. But nada, nothing, zilch!
"Stop worrying, Tina, I told you your article rocked" Raye said though she sounded a bit bored. I had been laying it on thick with the sympathy but this was a big deal, I wanted the article to be perfect for Duncan to give him and his charity the recognition that it needed. And to hopefully propel my actual writing career. I had even bought a MSG shirt the other day and was wearing it now...the fact that it was fashionable was an added bonus.
"I'm just gonna drink now" I took a sip, eyes widening when I realised Fara had given me champagne. They were really going all out tonight.
We heard the front door slam, and looked in the direction of Phil's door, though we all knew who it was.
"I COME BARING GIFTS MY YOUNG ELVES, REINDEER AND...um...GOBLINS" Bruno's voice boomed from the hallway as he strutted into the living room with a DVD in his hand.
The sole purpose of everyone being at Phil's, to be the first to watch the final cut videoof Locked Out Of Heaven.
It was common knowledge that Phil had the biggest television out of the whole group, it used to be Bruno but he had just moved into a new house and still hadn't bothered to start doing up – according to Raye...as if he would tell me these things anymore, we're acting like sulky teenagers right now.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited, all my friends were going to be in this video, I wanted to see if it had a story-line if they had any other themes other than what Phred said. Possibly see if there was a beautiful girl starring in the video, though the girls didn't say anything along those lines, I knew Fara would probably lie if this was the case.
"I'm not too sure goblins fit the Christmas tradition" Phil said. "Why are we even discussing Christmas, its two months away. Why are we even discussing anything? Stick the fucking DVD in."
