THE HAWAII CHRONICLES PART II shuffled in my seat for what felt like the hundredth time. I was aware of the fact that we hadn't even taken off yet and my uneasiness wasn't a good sign for a good flight.
"You know you're defying the basic laws of first class, right?" Bruno murmured calmly, looking the complete opposite of how I felt.
"Hmm?" I stop mid shuffle to look at him.
He grinned in amusement, "The whole point of first class is that you're supposed to be comfortable."
"Well...I guess I'm a special case."
"Very special...okay." Bruno sat up fully rubbing his eyes with the back of his hands.
"What're you doing?"
"If you're not relaxing on this plane then neither am I." He stretched his arms over his head waking himself up. "It's gonna be a hard task but by God I'll get it done!" He lifted the arm rest that separated our seats and scooted next to me putting his arm over my shoulders.
I gave him a semblance of a smile as my gaze ventured out the window at the other planes on the runaway around us, one of them began moving slowly. "I hate planes..."
"Hey, come here." He pulled me closer resting his chin on the top of my head. "It's not like we were gonna get any sleep with those guys over there." He nodded towards where his siblings and their kids and loved ones were too engrossed in what they were doing to notice us. "And I'm talking about Eric and Jaime, not the kids." Bruno shook his head, I could tell he was smiling. "Animals."
"I still can't picture all of you growing up in one household, let alone with three more sisters..."
"It's no wonder I turned out crazy." Bruno shrugged, "Hey, why don't we watch a film! Or, like, half a season of some amazingly epic television show–"
"I'm not watching six hours worth of Game of Thrones with you!" I laugh. "No way in hell."
"Why not?" Bruno was half way through turning on the TV in front of us as he turned back to me with a fake sad face.
"Primarily because it's me who hates planes and your solution only makes you feel better! You gotta admit that's kinda selfish, Mr. Mars."
"Selfish? Never. I'm just trying to expose you to one of the greatest creations in the world bar me."
"Bull. Shit" I whispered in his ear in case the children heard.
"Such profound language, Tina. What would my mother say?" Bruno put his hand over his mouth the way a kid would if they heard their friend use a bad word.
"What would she say if she knew you got that bracelet you sent her for her birthday was from a pawn shop?" I raised my eyebrow.
"...are you blackmailing me, Tina?"
I smiled "...maybe." And I reached for the TV remote and started scimming through the what felt like a thousand different options until I found the perfect option.
Sure it might be torture for Bruno but it would sure as hell make me feel better.
"No, Tina." Bruno shook his head reaching from the remote when he saw what I was hovering over. "No."
"Why not?" I made the same sad face he did before putting the remote behind my back as far as it can go. He tried reaching but I leant further away. "I love this show..." I said in a sad voice.
