You're my little sister and right now I'm looking at mug shots of your boyfriend.- Leonardo Danielson
"Weird...mom hasn't been answering the phone all day..." I said as I hung up my phone again after the fourth call she hadn't answered for the day.
"Maybe she's not home and she left her mobile at home." Fara suggested putting her sunglasses over her eyes looking at the California shine from our seats at the local coffee shop near her apartment.
"No shit, that's why she's not answering the phone." I deadpanned. "But I've been calling her all day. Not once has she been home in ten hours."
It was so strange, she always answered her calls.
"Maybe youou shouldn't have waited two weeks to call her back." Fara the Voice of Reason said.
It had been two weeks since the Elton John concert and I know I should have called my mom back but these past few weeks had been going so well that I didn't want to rock the boat.
"You know full well why I haven't called her back." I stirred my coffee. Fara has visited my hometown with me once before and has met my mother on several occasions to know why I didn't like talking to my mom about intimate things, she blows it way out of proportion.
"I know, but imagine what she's done since you haven't talked to her about your relationship with Bruno."
I leaned back in my seat with confusion clear in my eyes but it could be mistaken for me squinting at the sun. "I don't understand..."
Fara leaned onto our table. "Think about it, Tina. In this day and age what do you when you meet someone or see someone of interest onTV?"
"I...look them up online, find a facebook page or somethi– shit."
I understood.
"She'll go on the inter-web and who knows what she'll discover..." Fara shrugged. "That's why you need to get to her first."
"You don't think she'll buy into all that crap they write on TMZ, do you?" I asked warily. I didn't want her to hate Bruno before she's even met him, if she ever meets him and I don't want her to scare him off.
"C'mon, your mom's not an idiot" Fara gave me a supportive smile. Yeah, I should give my mom credit, she's not that gullible. "What about Vegas?"
"Shit." I placed my head on the table in defeat. "I completely forgot about that. He has a friggin' mug shot out there for the world to see."
"You see my point?"
I lifted my head off the table, "Maybe she won't come across it."
Fara's eyes lit up, "Yeah, and maybe the Easter Bunny is real." Jheeze she doesn't have to be so blunt. "You need to do damage control."
"I will once she answers her damn phone!"
"Then call Leo or someone else who can get a hold of her."
"...why didn't I think of that?" I murmured to myself, picking up my phone and as if my touch set if off, it began ringing.
It was Leo, shit that was creepy.
"It's him." I said to Fara and she narrowed her eyes in confusion. "Hey Le." I answered leaning my elbows on our table.
"What did you tell mom?" He demanded.
I recoiled back at his tone feeling deja vu back to high school times when he would scold me for using the last of the milk. "Nothing, I haven't spoken to her in two weeks. She's not answering my calls."
