***Bill***

I slowly close my eyes and turn off my light. "Night, Ford!" It's been two years since I came to live with Ford, and one since he officially adopted me.

"Goodnight Bill." I hear from across the house. I smile and cuddle into my endless stack of pillows, drifting off into a sleep.

"Bill..." What?

Pictures flash in my head. Pictures of my dear friend, Pine Tree. Pictures I don't like. Him bruised, beaten, homeless, sad. I get mad.

"Bill, please come help me!" I hear his voice ringing softly all around me.

I need to go... I need to help him! Before this all happens!! Before-

My eyes shoot open. I look outside and see that it's still dark.

Pine Tree. I need to go help Pine Tree. I jump out of bed and get my backpack, throwing the unnecessary things out of it and putting some clothes, water, money, a pocket knife, and canned food in it, along with the first aid kit that was already in it and many other helpful items. I grab a paper and write a note to Ford real quick.

Ford,
I have to go. I promise, I'll be back, but my friend needs my help now. I'll see you when I get back, don't come looking for me. I know how to get there and back alive. Love you.
Bill

I take a deep breath as I put the note down and sneak out of my window, determined to get to Pine Tree before it was too late.

It's pretty dark out here, but the path to the highway is very visible. When I reach the black pavement, I start walking along it, going south. Cars pass, and I hold out my thumb to them, but no one stops. I sigh each time and just continue.

Eventually, a small car with a pale man pulls up. The man has black hair, all black clothes, and green eyes. I'm iffy about it, but I walk to the window.

"I'm not letting you in unless your stop is Piedmont, cause I'm not stopping till then." I nod.

"That's where I'm going." I guess it's a lucky shot... it also might be a bad call, but I don't know when the next person will come along.

"Get in, kid." I go to the passenger seat and sit, closing the door and buckling in.

He starts driving. It's dead silent between us. I smell a putrid scent in the car and recognize it as the drink that put my parents in the big house.

Wait... is he driving drunk?? I internally panic, but it's not like he'd let me out. We swerve on the road, and I tense up. He laughs.

"You scared, kid?" He noticed. "Of course I noticed." I freak out and look at him. He smirks at me, sitting sideways in his chair, facing me.

No hands on the wheel. I reach out to grab the wheel, but a bright blue light holds both of my hands back. The same light surrounds the wheel.

"Wh-what's going on??" I ask, scared. He snickers.

"Aw, calm down kid." He snaps his fingers and suddenly appears on top of me, straddling me. "If I wanted to do anything to you, I could in the snap of a finger." He runs his fingers through my hair as his gets his face closer. In fear, I look away, closing my eyes. I suddenly feel him gone and open my eyes, seeing him sitting in the drivers seat again, staring at me. "But since I don't care to, I won't."

I still don't calm down. "Wh-what are you?"

"That doesn't matter. Anyways, I have a proposal for you, kid." There's nothing I can do, so I just listen. "I know about the situation you have right now with that friend of yours and you trying to save him and all, so I think if you can help me, I'll help you." I listen closer, interested. "I can give you power. Power to be anywhere at anytime and do anything. Power to travel through dimensions, to bend time and space, to save people. In exchange, I need freedom from the shackles I bare. Only you can do that." I think about it.
