"Its stupid, Phil." Dan said in an annoyed tone.

"I think it's sweet."

"Of course you would." Dan shook his head at his boyfriend. "Flowers are a stupid gift. They serve no purpose."

"But when someone gives them to you, you feel all sweet and fluffy on the inside. That's why they're such a great gift." Phil replied, he was smiling a big goofy smile, which caused Dan to roll his eyes.

"You're such a romantic." Dan stated.

"You'd be one too, if you weren't busy being a pessimist all the time." Phil shot back.

"I'm not a pessimist I'm a realist."

"You seem pretty pessimistic to me." Phil said scanning the isle they were in. "This is pretty." Phil said, pointing to the Mothers Day basket, that was filled with chocolates and soaps.

"That's generic." Dan stated flatly.

"You're generic." Phil mocked. "Just get your mum flowers like me. She'll love them, because they came from you."

"But...flowers really? They last for like a day, then they die. What kind of gift is that?" Dan said, still scanning the isle for a gift.

"How did you feel when you got your first bouquet of flowers?" Phil asked, in attempted to get his point across.

Dan shrugged, and picked up a teddy bear with the words mom on its tummy, and the year etched onto its foot. "I've never been given flowers."

"What?" Phil gasped, "You've never been given flowers???"

"Have you ever bought me flowers?" Dan deadpanned.

Phil thought for a while, than slowly shook his head, "No."

"There's your answer." Dan said blandly. "You were my first boyfriend, remember? No one else has given me flowers. All that romatic shit was your job." Dan cracked a grin.

Phil's face was blank. He was staring at his shoes, not really paying attention to Dan.

"I never bought you flowers." Phil said, sounding astonished.

"We've covered this already..." Dan said.

"No. Dan. I've never bought you flowers. I'm your boyfriend and I've never bought you flowers. Oh my God." Phil sounded like he was in pain. 

"Phil it's okay..." Dan went to pat Phil shoulder, but Phil shrugged him off.

"No. No, its not okay. What kind of boyfriend never buys flowers for their boyfriend?? I'm so sorry Dan."

"Phil, really it's okay." Dan said, mildly worried. "I just told you I thought flowers were a stupid gift."

"You think they're stupid because I've never bought you flowers!! If you only had the experience...you'd understand." Phil mumbled.

"Phil it's not like you haven't bought me things. You're really sweet. You take me to dinner and buy me clothes and open doors for me. You're a sweetheart. A solid gold star on the boyfriend scale." Dan said, genuinely worried now.

"No." Phil said, backing up and quickly running out of the isle.

"Phil what are you doing??" Dan chased after.
