 VAER

OTHER EXCUSES

The next day, I arrived at the school gate and was soon approached by Wendel. He approached me while removing his glasses from his eyes. The boy looked very distressed about what had happened at the amusement park.

"Vaer! How are you? Wow! I was so worried about you! I thought about calling you on the phone, but I remembered that you have no telephone ..."

"I am fine."

My foreheads condensed a little with the clarity of the light over my eyes. Wendel was still standing in front of me, waiting for me to say something.

"I was also worried about you. I wanted to get back at that amusement park and know how you were, but I could not go back."

He smiled at me kindly.

"Do not worry! I was well. Some park servants helped me get off the chair in safety." He stared at me. "At that moment, I only thought about your safety."

I ended up smiling to the ground. He had said words as sweet as his eyes in my direction, demonstrating really he cared about me.

Nevertheless, his palm slid behind his head and he changed the subject regarding my safety.

"But tell me one thing! What was that one with huge, black wings? People in the park affirmed that it was an angel with black wings."

I just smiling apprehensively to gain time and try to convince him of my version.

"Well, that was not an angel with black wings." I paused. "He's my brother."

"Swear?"

His eyes widened as he was looking very surprised with my confession.

"How does he do to fly at the heights that way? Wow! Those wings seemed so perfect! He also wears lenses?" frowned in my direction. "If I'm not mistaken, his eyes were light gray."

During that, I scratched my head. My version was starting to get complicated to carry out. But I had to continue with it, or would put it all down with my confession. In no way, I could reveal the truth to Wendel at that moment.

So I had to be more efficient with my apologies.

"Yes, my brother wears lenses. In fact ..." I rolled my eyes. "He has a neurosis for years and ended up creating those wings to try to look like a ..."

Wendel did not let me finish talking.

"Angel with black wings?" he quipped. "Only if it is the reaper! Don't you think?"

"I do not think anything."

Soon I began to feel annoyed with our conversation. Next to no time, I tried to seek refuge away from his presence.

"Wendel, we talked later, now I need to go in because the class will start within a few minutes and I do not want to be late."

Informed him civilly and walked in the front. But I felt he came running after me and started walking on my side while holding his books under his left arm.

"I do not want to be late to class."

He spoke at my side. I looked at his picture in profile and remained silent. So we proceed to the classroom without saying a word.
