CHAPTER 19
'Kiera, get up, we're late for school!' I rise and sit up in my bed, rubbing my eyes lazily. 'You're sweating Kiera; I think you had a nightmare or something.' I touch my hair and realise that my hair is stuck onto my neck and that my clothes are stuck onto my body. I look at Lily who's dressed in her uniform.
'What time is it?'
'Quarter past 8.'
'What? Are you serious?' I ask panicking because I'm going to be late for school.
'Yeah, I'm serious.'
'So why the hell are you only waking me up right now?'
'Because my mum said you were going to stay off from school today, apparently you got in late or something but I just woke you up to ask you.'
'I can't be bothered for school today so I'm just not going to turn up.'
'Seriously?' Duh.
'Of course I'm serious.'
'We have revision classes today, remember?' I sigh and ask 'can't you just go and pass me your notes?'
'Even if I did that, you'll understand it more, if you hear it and we only have biology, chemistry and English together.'
'Fine, I'll go,' I mutter but I make no movement whatsoever. 'It's nearly half past 8' Lily says and I immediately get up to take a shower. I'm definitely going to be late for school. There is definitely no doubt about that. I get dressed in the bathroom after I take my shower as I brought my things with me.
I go back to the guest room and I notice Lily's made up the bed and she's currently lying on it, while on her phone. 'What are you still doing here?' I grab her attention as she looks at me.
'I didn't leave in the first place.'
'Why?'
'Why what?' I roll my eyes before replying, 'why didn't you leave for school?'
'I don't know, I just thought I'd walk with you.' I don't reply so she carries on speaking, 'I just thought that you needed a friend right now.'
'Well, you thought wrong, I don't need a friend that talks to me one day then barely acknowledges my presence the next Lily.'
'I don-'
'Yes, you do!' She just looks away and avoids my gaze.
'How's your mum?'
'Obviously been better.'
'You know I'm here for you and if-'
'How the hell would I know that? You don't even speak to me anymore, I've clearly been replaced.' She sighs and says 'Liz hasn't replaced you; I mean you're pretty irreplaceable.'
'Is that supposed to make me feel better? Because it basically isn't working.' She doesn't say anything and there's an awkward silence.
'You're up Kiera.' Anna says.
‘Yes, I am.' She comes into the room and looks at both of us before asking 'are you going to school today?'
'Yes, I have some important revision classes that I need to attend.'
'I thought you were going to stay here today.'
'Yes, me too but I guess I forgot about the revision classes.' She smiles at me and asks 'how is your mum?' I can tell she genuinely cares because they are pretty close friends.
'She's-' I can't even finish off what I want to stay because the tears stream down my face again.
'Aw, honey come here,' Anna says as she pulls me into a hug. I just sob into her arms. She rubs my back with the back of her hand soothingly. Anna waits until I calm down before untangling me from herself. 'All better?' She asks and I nod my head. 'Are you sure you want to go into school today?'
