Chapter 33

 'Is this a joke?'

'Does it look we're laughing?' Andrea replies. I give her a dirty look before asking 'dad, what do you mean she's your wife? How can she be your freaking wife? Mum died recently!'

'I know,' he says looking guilty.

 'So you cheated on her?' He sighs and says 'Kiera, you can’t blame me. Your mother and I were not working.'

'Because you kept choosing alcohol over her!' I scream.

 'Hey, this is not your father's fault so do not blame him!'

'Please Kiera, just be happy for me, I've changed.' I scoff because I can't believe what has just happened. It seems unreal but real at the same time.

 'Whatever.' I say as I go to my room, slamming the door with so much force. I get changed into my pyjamas and go downstairs, for a cup of tea.

I walk into the kitchen and Andrea is already there. I roll my eyes and intend to ignore her presence. She's making a cup of coffee but she's waiting for the kettle to boil. She starts making small talk by asking 'where were you?'

'None of your business.'

'Well, as your new mother, I think it is my business.' I scoff and choose to ignore her statement. I grab a tea cup and put a tea bag, followed by three spoon full of sugars in. 'You can ignore me all you like but that won't change the fact that I'm living here.'

'Whatever.'

'I don't think that's the way you should be talking to mother, do you?'

'I think it's perfectly fine, seen as you're not my mother.'

'And who asked you for your opinion Kiera?' I scoff and say 'you did, just a minute ago.'

'I was being polite,' she simply states. The house is silent and I wonder where my dad is.

 'Where's my dad?'

'He went out for a little bit. He thought it would be best for me to get to know you.'

'Well, that's pointless because I'm going to sleep soon.'

'Well, let's make the most of it.' The kettle boils, saving me from replying and she pours it in to her cup. She puts the kettle back and stirs her coffee. I walk to where she's standing to use the kettle and pour it in my cup. I open the fridge and add some canned milk. I pour it in my cup and stir.

I notice Andrea coming closer towards me and before I can speak, I feel a burning sensation on my arm. 'Ow!' I hiss, but she just presses harder. 'When I'm in this house, you'll treat me with respect and you can start by calling me "mum." I'll give you a few days to start calling me that,' she finishes speaking as she moves the spoon. I rub the sensitive spot, which is now forming a bruise. She smirks and takes her coffee, walking out the kitchen but she stops when she reaches the door. She turns back to look at me and says 'It'd be best if you didn't tell your father about this, he won't believe you and I'd hate for your relationship with him to be destroyed over something you thought happened.' She smirks again and leaves the room.

I just stand there, trying to think about what just happened but the pain in my arm is distracting me. I grab some ice from the freezer and put it on my arm. I don't feel like drinking tea anymore, so I pour it all down the drain and head upstairs, to my bed room. I use the bathroom to brush my teeth before getting into my cosy bed. I press the ice on my arm, making it numb. My phone vibrates on my bedside table so I reach out to look at it and I see a message from Lucy.

Do you want to meet up tomorrow? I'll make sure Lily and Katie also come....xo-Luce

I find myself considering it for a while, before I type out my reply. I type in an awkward angle, as I have to pres the ice onto my wrist as well. I think of saying 'no' but that would mean staying at home with Andrea and my dad would probably head out, wanting us to interact. There is no way I'm staying with her, so I type out my response.

Yeah, okay. But you do know it's going to have to be late because they're drunk right? ~K~

She responses almost immediately, so I'm guessing she has her phone in her hand.

Haha, yep I do, it’s at 1. But they'll probably come later, knowing them. Just meet me at 1 at the cookie corner. xo-Luce

Seen as she said cookie corner, there's no way I'm not coming. It's the best cafe and sells everything.

Okay ~K~

I put my phone away and drift to sleep.

~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up to find a cold wet patch on my bed. My eyes widen in horror and confusion. It takes me a minute to realise it was from my burn and I remember who caused it. I check my phone for the time and it says 12:30. I realise I was meeting Lucy at 1 so I go to the bathroom to brush my teeth and take shower.
Ten minutes later, I come out of the shower and decide to wear a white t- shirt with black shorts and white converse. I blow dry my hair but I don't bother brushing it, as that would take more time. I just pull it in a high pony tail and look in the mirror. That's when I notice the dark circles under my eyes. I quickly get my make up set and hide the dark circles with light foundation.
I go downstairs and I realise my dad and Andrea are awake because they're talking. I walk into the kitchen and say 'dad, I'm going out and I need some money.'
'Out? You were out last night and you didn't even ask me!'
'Because you were out all yesterday so how was I supposed to ask you?' He sighs and says 'I really think you should stay at home and socialise with me and Andrea.’
'Let Kiera go, Dave. She's young and needs to make the most out of her life.' To say that I'm genuinely shocked would be an understatement.
 'Andrea, she'll get used this. She'll keep coming back for more. You don't know her like I do.'
'You don't even know me, so what the hell would you know dad?' My dad doesn't say anything, so Andrea says 'you shouldn't talk to your father like that. All you do is use him whenever you want something. I was willing to give you money, however much you needed but with your tone, it's not going to happen today, I'm afraid.' I scoff and shake my head at her response.
'You haven't even had your breakfast Kiera.'
'Well, dad, I was going to buy some.'
'You don't want to talk to me or to Andrea. You won't even sit with us so I'm not giving you any money.’ I laugh and say 'why am I even asking you when I could just use my credit card?' I know my dad won’t cancel it because my mum kept putting money in my account every month, for as long as I remember. I go upstairs to get it and put it in my back pocket. I hear my phone vibrate and I notice it's on my bed and that I would have forgotten it. I grab it and check my messages and it's from Lucy.
Where are you? I've been waiting for an eternity! xo-Luce
I check the time and it says 13:20. I mentally slap myself for losing track of time and text her back.
I'm on my way! ~K~
I put my phone into my other pocket and head of the house.
