CHAPTER 25
Soon, the whole form is present and everyone is moaning.
I look at the clock, directly in front of me, which reads 08:30. That explains why everyone is present. ‘Settle down you lot!’ As soon as everyone realises that it’s Mr. Whiteside, everyone becomes silent. ‘I know you have your exams today and I just wanted to wish you all luck. I have no doubt whatsoever that you’ll do me proud. Also, keep the noise down; I know you’re under a lot of pressure, believe it or not, I was once your age but you’re not the only people taking their exams today.’ He turns to leave but stops as he directly looks at me and says ‘oh and Kiera, you’re going to have to stay behind as you’re doing another exam.’
‘Yes, I know, you’ve told me multiple times.’
‘Yes- well I just thought it may have slipped your mind.’
‘You thought wrong.’ I simple state. He gives me a stern look but doesn’t bother replying as he leaves the room, followed by Mr. Grey. They’re probably talking about me but who cares?
A few minutes later, Mr. Grey comes back into the classroom and takes the register. I look around the classroom and everyone is busy reading, writing, or doing something else to help with revision. ‘Kiera, aren’t you going to revise?’ I look at him and shake my head. ‘What? Why not?’
‘I have a headache and there isn’t much point.’
‘There is every point. This little revision could help you get a good grade.’
‘Or, it may also help me get a bad grade so I won’t risk it.’ He scoffs but decides to stop trying. I look at the time again and it reads 08:45. We have five minutes left before we start hall as the exam starts at 09:00 and there are lot of students.
After a few minutes Mr. Grey says ‘right, good luck to all of you with your exams and you all know what exam takes place first right?’
‘What exam takes place first Sir?’
‘Are you honestly asking me that now Joe?’
‘Yes Sir.’ Mr. Grey sighs as he asks ‘does anyone else need to know what exam takes place?’ Everyone replies with ‘no.’
‘Right.’ He quietly mutters while he searches for a paper that has all the exam times on it. There is one main hall and some exams will occur today and some will occur tomorrow, depending on the subjects people are doing. After each exam is finished, a bell will ring, signaling that students for the next subject should make their way to the mail hall. ‘Joe, didn’t you get a sheet?’ I ask curiously.
‘Erm...No.’
‘It’s pretty simple; it’s Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Literature, Psychology, Maths, and Geography. Everything else is tomorrow but your entire exams take place today so you don’t need to come to school tomorrow.’ He gives me a shocked look and says ‘thanks!’
‘Here’s the paper Joe!’
‘I don’t need it anymore Sir.’
‘Oh really? Because you seemed pretty sure you needed it before. Take it, I don’t want you making a mistake and not turning up to your exams.’ He rolls his eyes but takes his paper nonetheless. ‘Right, make your way to the main hall, whoever is doing the first exam which is-‘
‘Biology.’ I state, helping him out a little as he stops to look at the paper.
‘Yes, Biology, everyone else may go to the library or study room to revise but nowhere near the main hall!’ Everyone walks off and by the time our form arrive at the main hall, everyone is already there. Mr. Whiteside shouts our names out and points to where we’re sitting. There are a lot of desks (as they’re for every single student taking an exam today) and they all have names on them but some of them are empty. Probably because the students aren’t doing Biology. Each desk has the stationary you will need, your booklet and your details on it. We’re told to fill in our details on the front of the exam paper and wait for the bell to ring.
~~~~~BIOLOGY~~~~~
The bell rings and everyone opens their booklet. The questions I’ve answered so far seem fairly easy but that probably means I’ve done everything wrong as they were intended to be difficult. I finish the exam earlier than I expected and there’s only fifteen minutes left. A Biology teacher I’ve never seen before looks at me and mimes ‘carry on.’ I just roll my eyes and close my booklet and but my head on top of it, resting my eyes.
‘Kiera!’ Mr. Whiteside whispers. I quickly sit up and look at him. ‘What are you doing?’
‘I’ve finished.’ I whisper back. ‘No, you think you have, check your work, don’t just sleep.’
‘Sir, I’ve finished.’
‘Check over your work.’ He walks away and I stare at my booklet, considering checking my work. I decide against it as I go back to my original position. The bells ring and everyone put their pens down. The staffs collect our past papers and people chat amongst themselves. People who are not doing the Chemistry exam leave the room and people (who are doing the Chemistry exam) come into the room and look for their name. Everyone takes their seat and settle down, waiting for the bell to ring as all the exam papers have been handed out.
~~~~~CHEMISTRY~~~~~
The bell rings and everyone opens their past paper. The first question puts me off as it asks me to draw the graphical formula for 2-methylpropane. I draw anything that comes into my mind as I hate this topic.
I turn over the page and my face lightens up when I see some calculation questions. I love the mathematical side of Chemistry even though I’m not doing the subject. I do them all in a few minutes and turn over the page.
More drawings come up, as the question asks me to draw a dot and cross diagram which is fairly easy. I complete more questions before I get to the last question which is about the mass spectrometer. I make a plan for my answer as it helps me and before I know it- I have my essay like answer.
I finish early again but no teacher comes to tell me to check my work. I rest my head and wait for the bell ring.
After a long while the bell rings and our papers are collected. I check the time at the front, which reads 11:06. The Physics exam is next which will take place at 11:10. Students who aren’t sitting the Physics exam leave the hall and students who are sitting the Physics exam enter the hall.
I leave the hall and go upstairs to sit in the common room. I have an hour to spare before my English exam. The logical thing to do would be to revise but you can’t exactly revise for English so I decide to take a nap as the bell will ring as soon as the Physics exam is done.
