CHAPTER 12
I slam the door as I get home, not caring on whether anyone heard or not. 'Who do you think you are slamming the door, acting like you own this place?' I turn around and see my dad with a red angry face and a beer in his hand.
'I'm sorry dad, I didn't-'
‘Whatever don't give me that crap Blondie.'
'I said I was sorry.'
'And what the hell did I say?'
'You-'
'Actually, don't answer that because you probably don't even remember,' he says laughing at his own joke.
'I'm just going to my room.'
'What do I care where you go?' One minute he asks where I’m going and the next, he acts like he doesn't care, what the hell? Before, he can say anything else, I run upstairs to my room and close the door shut. I change my clothes into something comfortable and lay on my bed repeating today in my head.
'Kiera, how did your exam go?' I turn to where the sound came from and I see my mum standing by my door. 'You've got to be joking right?'
'What? Why would I be joking?'
'Oh my God, you're actually serious!' She nods her head to confirm that she's being serious. Why is she asking me about my exam now?
'Yes, honey I am.'
'My exam was ages ago.'
'Don't be ridiculous, it wasn't ages ago, it was a little while ago and I forgot to ask you how it was.' I raise my eyebrows at her because I can't believe what I’m hearing and she just continues. 'I've been busy you know, with work and your dad-'
'I don't want your excuses, I get it, and the last thing on your mind is your daughter's exams, its fine, forget it.' She sighs and walks towards me putting her hand on my knees.
'I didn't say that did I? I care about your exams, of course I do, and I am your mother.'
'You’re only my mother when you want to be.' She gasps and immediately stands up.
'How can you say that?'
'How can you just stand there and watch dad beat the hell out of me and even make excuses up for him, you act like everything's fine all the time, when it's not. You put your safety before mine! I know I’m not a mum but I’m pretty sure that a mother is not supposed to do that.' I see tears rolling down her cheeks and that's the first time I've actually seen her cry. She wipes them away, muttering a 'sorry,' before walking away. It really is a little too late to be apologising. I decide to take my mind off things by taking a small nap as I love having naps.

After what seems like hours, I feel gigantic hands shaking me back and fourth. It only takes a little while for me to realise that it's my dad waking me up. Instantly, I jolt up and rub my eyes and I notice that Lily is standing behind him. I stand up immediately, which causes my duvet to fall on to the floor. 'What are you doing here?'
'Now now, if you keep greeting your friends like that, you won't have any left!' He laughs again, at his own joke and Lily just stands there. We both look at him and he finally says 'I'll leave you two girls to it.' I wait until he leaves the room before asking 'how long have you been here?'
'Erm... like two minutes and your dad instantly brought me up here, why?' I couldn't help but ask her that, especially after what happened with Lucy so I sigh with relief when I hear her answer.
'No reason,' I reply and she just nods her head. I sit back on my bed and ask 'what are you doing here anyway?'
'Do you not want me to be here?' I shrug my shoulders as I honestly don't know and say 'you haven't answered my question.'
'You haven't answered mine.'
'I shrugged my shoulder-'
'Not that question' she simply states.
'Then what question?'
'You told me Lucy needed me and when I asked you why, you said she needed a friend then said forget it. What did you even mean by it? You didn't even answer my question and it only occurred to me a while ago.' I scoff because there's no need as they're already best friends for ever.
'It doesn't matter; you two are practically best friends again.'
'What? How do you even know that?'
'I have my sources.' I shrug my shoulders again.
'You mean you eavesdropped on our conversation!'
'Why? Was it supposed to be a secret?' She sighs and sits on my bed, 'who said you could sit down?'
'I get that you’re upset about what we said and stuff but you had no right to eavesdrop.'
'Whatever Lily, just get lost.' She makes no movement whatsoever so I coldly ask 'did you want something?'
'You brought this on yourself you know.'
'Yeah, I did because I’m so retarded I can't tell the difference between a fake friend and a true one.'
'I didn't mean that-'
'Go tell someone who cares because I don't and from now on, I’m just going to be alone, that way I won't mistaken fake idiotic friends for true ones.' She looks mad as she gasps.
'That's not fair, if you weren't such an idiot all the time, maybe none of this would've happened in the first place!'
She was the one person that never called me that. She seems as shocked at me but she gets up to leave and I follow her. She probably thought I was going to beg her to stay, but I’m not that desperate. I just follow her to make sure she actually leaves and that my dad doesn't see her leaving. She leaves my house, slamming the door and I’m surprised my dad doesn't come running at that moment so I go into the living room and realise that he's fast asleep with a can of beer in his hand and ten empty cans scattered all across the floor. Typical.
