CHAPTER 21
What where are you? xLilx
I read Lily's text wile walking and I honestly don't know how she's texting me because she's supposed to be in Chemistry. I guess she's doing it really fast and obviously Mr. Elliot can't see her.
With my dad. Aren't ya supposed 2be in Chem?~K~
As soon as I press send, my phone vibrates in my hand.
Yh, I’m in Chem. What time are you getting back? xLilx
I decide to just walk with my phone in my hands, texting Lily instead of putting my phone away.
Not sure, why?~K~
If you get back earlier & school isn't finished, wait for me in school or something k? xLilx
Yehh, k, I'll jst text ya then. ~K~
K, talk to you later! xLilx
'Kiera, can you put that goddamn thing away?' I look up to see my dad's piercing eyes staring back at me so I put my phone in my pocket without replying to Lily's text. 'Good.'
'Why are you even here? You know I had chemistry revision?'
'Are you honestly trying to tell me that chemistry revision is more important than your mother’s health?' I stay quiet because I don't know what to say. After a little walk, I notice his car and we get inside and sit in silence.
'Did you call me to just sit here?'
'Your mother is going to have the operation.'
'What? Really?'
'Yes, she is.' I can see the pained expression on his face so I know that he's clearly hurting.
'Will it help?'
'I'm not going to lie to you Kiera, it won't help.' My heart starts beating faster and I can feel my palms becoming sweaty. I find it difficult to breathe it's like all the oxygen from the air is being sucked away. 'Kiera breathe!' My dad demands as he puts both his hands on my shoulder, encouraging me to breathe. My breathing rate turns normal and I ask 'so why is she getting it done?'
'So she can come home and we can be a family.'
'There is no point because we won't even be a fa-'
'Kiera don't say that. I and your mother don't need this right now.'
'Oh really? And what about what I need dad? Have you forgotten about where I fit into this?'
'Of course I haven't, you're all we've been thinking about.'
'Yeah, right!'
'Your mother is in hospital and I know that all of this is a big shock to you but you don't need to take it out on me, honey.' I cringe at his words and say 'mum isn't here.'
'I know she isn't.'
'No, you don't, because if you did, you'd stop acting like that.'
*SLAP*
I'm horrified at his actions. I'm horrified at myself for actually starting to believe him. My body still hasn't reacted to the slap and I just sit there motionless, like a statue. 'I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to do that, I just.’ He sighs and I shake my head before getting out the car and going back into school.
