CHAPTER 29

After the school day has ended, I decide to meet my dad at a local cafe. 'Hey, how did your results go?'

'I got an A.' I say emotionlessly.

'Wow, that’s great,' he says with so much enthusiasm. He calms down and says 'I called to meet up for a reason; I think it's time for you to come home. We need to get through this together Kiera. I need you, just as much as you need me. So, what do you say?' I shrug my shoulders and he says 'It was your mum's dying wish.'

'Okay. When do you want me to come back?'

'Today.'

'What? Today? That's a little short notice.' He takes a deep breath before saying, 'I know but I want to try and get back to normal as soon as possible and I'd be most grateful if you helped me.' I nod my head after a while. We say our goodbyes and I send a text to Lily.

Hey, can you get some of my stuff ready? I'm moving back home. ~K~

What? Why? xLilx

My dad wants me to. ~K~

Okay... xLilx

I get home shortly and find that Lily is waiting for me on the stairs. 'Hi,' I say strangely. She rises to her feet and instantly asks 'Kiera why are you leaving?'

'I thought we had this conversation.'

'It wasn't a proper conversation and you haven't answered my question.' I sigh and say 'actually I have but if you want me to explain it again, then I will. My dad wants me to come home which is why I’m going back home.'

'I know but don't you want to stay here or something?'

'It has nothing to do with that.'

'So tell me then, what does it have to do with?' She asks and I mentally slap myself for nearly giving everything away. I just ignore her and say 'I'm busy right now.'

I go up to the guest room to find that Lily has organised and Lucy comes in. 'So, I heard you're moving in with your dad.' My body tenses up but I manage to face her and say 'Lily obviously told you.'

'Yes, she did. Why didn't you tell me?'

'Tell you what Lucy? There is nothing to tell.'

'How can you even say that? Are you being serious right now?' I sigh before saying 'It's none of your business Lucy.'

'Right, so it's not my business even though that thing happened?' I sigh, as she's making this really difficult.

'Why are you even bringing that up?'

'Because I don't think you'll be safe.'

I close my suitcase before coldly asking 'and since when did you care?' I take a seat on the bed and she sits opposite me.

'Why are you acting like this? I'm trying to help you.'

'I haven't asked for your help!'

'I'm just saying, I don't think you should live with him after what happened.'

'Oh okay, so I'll just say "dad I can't live with you because Lucy doesn't think it's safe after what you did to her?" He's my dad for crying out loud!' She scoffs before saying 'people like him never change, he'll end up hurting you and being your gullible self, you'll just believe it.'  I just sit like a statue which seems to make her angrier. 'God, Kiera, this is what I hate about you, why do you always have to be so naive?'

My body begins shaking and it's apparent that I'm crying. She sighs and I know she's uncomfortable because of what she said. I stand up and take all my things, ready to head out any second. But Anna comes rushing in and wraps her arms around me. 'Why didn't you tell me?' She asks full of concern after she pulls away. I just shrug my shoulders and she asks 'is there anything I can do for you?'

'No, thanks.'

'I'm so sorry for your loss.' I just fake a smile. I see Lily standing near the door and Lucy standing next to her, both staring at me. 'Where are you going now? You're in no fit state to be going anywhere.'

'My dad wants me to move in with him.'

'I don't think that's a good idea.'

'I can't stay here and he's the only family I have left. I'm sorry if you don't agree with my choices, but it's my life so you have no right to judge me.'

'Sorry to ruin your little moment but what is going on?' Lily asks and her mum turns to face Lily and Lucy, then back at me.

'Wait, they don't know?' She asks me and I roll my eyes because I didn't imagine everything being like this in my head. Everything was so simple but reality just has to complicate everything.

'Know what?' Lucy asks and quickly I say 'nothing.'

'Kiera, I think it would help if you someone else knew.'

'Katie knows.' I reply and she asks 'from years ago?' I nod, confirming her suspicions.

‘So you two are talking then?’ I nod my head again and she says ‘that’s great. I’m happy to know you’re all friends now.’

'How did you even know? You weren't supposed to know. No one was supposed to know.'

'I ran into your dad earlier,' I sigh and she quietly says 'I'll leave you girls to it,' before leaving the room.

'Okay, what the hell was that?' Lily asks. I take a deep breath, before calmly saying 'my mum is dead.'

'What?' They both ask.

'She died yesterday.'

'So that's why you were so upset,' mumbles Lily to no one in particular.

'So how come Katie knew?' Lucy asks curiously.

'I saw her at the hospital.'

'I don't get it, why didn't you tell us?' Lily says looking at me,

'How am I supposed to tell you something like that Lily? We barely talk and I don't even know you guys anymore.'

'I still think you should have told us.' Lily mutters.

'Well, if you actually cared, you'd be able to realise that something was up. But, the thing is, you don't care and that is because you only care about Liz.' Lily sighs loudly before saying 'It's actually not like that-'

'As much as I've loved this little chit chat, I have to go. Be sure to call Liz because I'm aware that she's my replacement,' I say sarcastically, before taking my belongings and leave the room.
