CHAPTER 2

'Kiera, nice of you to finally come home!'

'What are you talking about dad?'

'Do I have to spell it out?' I don't say anything but the confused expression fails to leave my face.

'Oh God, you're so stupid Kiera, why are you so stupid? You're late.'

'How can I be late? I left school early, you mean I’m early-' I barely finish my sentence and before I know it, his fist makes contact with my face. 'Ow' I cry in pain.

'That'll teach you to argue with me stupid. Why am I calling you stupid? Calling you stupid is an insult to stupid people.' Instantly I feel a burning sensation in both of my eyes. I won't cry in front of him though. I refuse to give him the satisfaction. He gives me an evil smirk before walking off.

I only came for some books not a beating. I go to my room and look for the books I need. I find them on my desk and put them in my bag. I hear the door slam but I don't think anything of it. I go downstairs and see my mum. 'Hi love, what are you doing back?'

'Just forgot some books.'

'How can you be that stupid? You're sixteen and you're forgetting your books. When are you going to grow up?' I sigh and walk past her.

'Don't walk away from your mother like that!' Shouts my dad. I turn back around and face them both and say 'I need to get to school.'

'What's the point of you going to school? You're too stupid for school Kiera.'

'Well, I’d rather be at school than be here!' I retort to my dad's comment.

*SLAP*

Today is just my lucky day (!) 'I'm your father and I deserve respect!'

'Well you'll know that respect is earned.'

*SLAP*

I quickly cover where he slapped protectively with my hand. My mum turns around. Talk about pathetic. 'Get to school, I honestly don't know what I’m looking at but it's staring back.' I sigh loudly before slamming the door and walk to school.

~~~~~~~~~~
After 15 minutes of walking, I finally arrive at school. I barely get inside the school building when I hear Lucy say 'hey Kiera, didn't I tell you? I was thinking about you all day yesterday at the zoo.' The girls around her instantly start laughing.
I turn around before saying 'I wasn't at the zoo yesterday.' They all laugh harder and I hear one of the girls saying 'don't bother with her, you'll just lose brain cells,' before walking off.
I mentally curse her and see Lily. 'Are they giving you a hard time?'
'No, not really.' I lie. I know she doesn't believe me because she rolls her eyes but she changes the subject.
'Where were you before?'
'When?' I fold my arms, not liking her questions.
'At the start of lunch.'
'Oh, I had to get home.' I briefly say, not wanting to tell her what happened.
'Why?'
'I forgot some books that I need.'
'Oh but why didn't you tell me?'
'For God's sake Lily I don't have to tell you everything do I?' I coldly say before walking off. She's obviously surprised. Everyone thinks that I’m not capable of being cold which is pretty irritating.
I'm not in the mood for my next lesson so I decide to skip it. The bell rings indicating that lunch is over and all the students make their way to their next lessons and I make my way to the common room. I'm the first one so I decide to take a seat. The minute I sit down, multiple boys come rushing in and sit opposite me, talking loudly. 'Oh look who's already here,' comments Joe. I'm not in the mood to talk right now so I just ignore him. 'Oh, cat got your tongue?'
'Speak when you're spoken to.' His friends start cheering.
'Was that you giving me advice Kiera?'
'No, it was me telling you, there's a difference, not that I expect you to understand or anything.' He scoffs and asks 'are you stupid because you're blonde, or are you blonde because you're stupid?' Again, his friends start cheering. I give him a dirty look because that was the lowest of the low.
'Who let you out of your cage?'
'Ouch, she just burned you,' his friends comment.
'You're all unbelievable!' I say before walking out. I'd rather go to my Biology class than sit in the common room. So I’m off to my next destination. The Biology classroom.
