CHAPTER 28

 'Kiera, wake up!' I feel someone lightly shaking and I'm shocked to find Doctor Ash (one of my mum's doctors) waking me up. I sit up and feel weird. I realise I'm drooling and have horrible morning breath which I can't stand.

'What time is it?' I mumble.

 'It' nearly eleven.'

'What?' I say standing up. I had to be in school today, full day.

 'What's the rush?'

'I have to be in school today.'

'Oh, I'm sorry; I didn't wake you up earlier, if I knew-'

'It's fine, honestly.' I turn to walk out of the door but I stop to look at him and ask 'have you seen my dad?'

'No, I'm sorry.' I give him a small smile and walk out the room. I practically sprint back to Lily's house and in less than five minutes, I'm already there.

I'm about to knock but I realise that no one is in and I have a spare key in my back pocket. I open the door and rush into the shower. I quickly get out and put on some leggings and a top, along with some black vans. I pull my hair into a high ponytail and put on some light foundation, hiding the tiredness from my face. I grab my bag and walk to school. I sign in at the reception at eleven thirty. Everyone is at assembly, in the main hall so I make my way there. I try to come in unnoticed but I lock eyes with Mr. Whiteside, so he obviously noticed me. I debate on where to sit and luckily, I notice Katie at the back cuddling with Joe. They're probably dating so I decide to sit at the back but on the far end of the row. 

A short while later, the assembly finished and everyone has a free hour to do what they want. I check my phone and realise I have a text message from my dad.

How did yesterday go for you? -Dad

Instantly, I send out a quick reply. 

It was okay, considering what's happened lately. Where were you? ~K~

Just as I hit send, he replies.

I was just at the hospital by your mother's side -Dad

I can't believe he actually sent me that. My eyes are glued to my phone and I keep re reading the text that he sent to me. 'Hey, did you just come now?' I don't even realise that Katie and Joe are waiting for me to answer until I look up.

'Oh hey.' I say as I put my phone in my bag. Katie sits down and asks 'did you just come now?'

'Yep.'

'So, why didn't you sit with us?'

'Erm... You guys seemed a little loved up.’ Katie laughs and asks 'are we really that loved up?' I nod my head, while smiling. Joe says 'two minutes,' before going to greet someone.

 'Did you tell anyone about..?'

'No, I haven't told anyone.' 

'Thanks.' I mutter and again.

 'No problem.'

'And I'm back!' Says Joe immaturely.

 'You weren't missed.' I tell him seriously and he mutters 'whatever.'

'Where you yesterday? You just stormed off.' I look up and see Lily's fuming face, so I sarcastically say 'hello to you to Lily.'

'Are you not going to answer my question?'

'I was out, no big deal.'

'I was up all night, literally waiting for you to return.' I don't say anything, so she continues, 'but knowing you, you probably don't even care. God, I'm not even going to bother.'
