CHAPTER 10

Lily doesn't say anything. Instead, she looks at me with her eyes wide open. She opens her mouth to say something but closes it again and does that a few times, looking like a goldfish. 'Lily, I swear, I can explain.' She scoffs as if to say "you can't," but says 'go one then!' Wow, I wasn't expecting her to say that. 'I'm still waiting Kiera.'

'Well, how long were you standing there for?'

'So I can tell you the answer and you can figure out what I’ve seen and lie about it?'

'Erm-'

'Whatever Kiera, you know, I was shocked, like seriously shocked but that's only because I care and with the way you've been acting, I don't even know why I care. I mean, you don't trust me with anything, I bet this has something to do with Lucy's behavior.' I don't say anything, so she scoffs again and walks off before saying 'forget it!'

'No, Lily wait, I'll explain.' She doesn't listen to me, she keeps walking so I run after her and grab her arms and turn her round so she's facing me.

'What the hell do you want?'

'I'm trying to explain!'

'Oh, I'm not Lucy, she's in the common room so how about you just go and explain to her instead? You two have much more in common anyway.'

'Oh my God, have you heard yourself? Are you jealous or something?'

'Why would I be? There's nothing to be jealous of.'

'I'm not stupid, I know people call me that all the time but I'm not and I know you're jealous, I can't be bothered to explain everything here and now, so if you still want me to, just tell me or something-'

'Don't worry, I won't!'

'Let me finish!' She looks at me, silently saying "continue," so I do. 'And Lucy really needs you right now-'

'Why would she need me?'

'She needs a friend.'

'She has plenty of those!'

'No, you don't understand, I mean real friends, she needs you.'

'I have better things to do with my time, she won't even talk to me, there is something going on between you two and you guys won't tell me so why should I even bother being there for her when I don't even know what I'm bringing myself in to?'

'You're unbelievable! Forget I even said anything.' I say shaking my head as I begin to walk away from Lily.

~~~~~Lily's P.O.V~~~~~
What the hell was that? I've never had that kind of conversation with Kiera before. Ever. There is something going on with Lucy and Kiera, I just know it. It is the most obvious thing in the world and when I'm with them, I just feel like a third wheel and it's only started happening recently. Plus, Lucy isn't herself and the conversation that Kiera had with her dad definitely has something to do with it.
I am going to do something about it. I go into reception and ask for Mr. Whiteside. 'May I ask why you need Mr. Whiteside?' the receptionist asks nosily and I just reply by saying 'it's strictly confidential.' She rolls her eyes at me and gives me a cold stare before telling me to enter his office.
'Lily, what brings me this great pleasure?'
'Erm... Well, I don't know how to say this but-'
'Come on Lily, I'm sure you can say whatever it is that is troubling you.'
'It's Kiera.'
'What has she done?' He asks as he is concerned.
'It's not what she has done; it's what she hasn't done.' He nods and tells me to sit down. When I sit, he nods his head at me again but this time silently telling me to continue. 'There's something going on between Lucy and Kiera and they won't tell me, it's like their own secret.'
'Lily, I wouldn't worry if I was you, these things have been happening ever since you three were very young, you'll all go back to being best friends.'
'No Sir, you don't understand, Lucy started hanging around with some other girls so we haven't been best friends, but we've started talking lately but now, all of a sudden, she's talking to Kiera and not me!'
'I understand, you're jealous.'
'I'm not jealous!' He gives me a serious look so I reconsider my answer 'yes, okay, I am but not just that, I know something is going on.'
'And how would you know that Lily?'
'Lucy isn't talking to me; she's not talking to anyone, not her friends, teachers, only Kiera. Don't you think that's a little strange? And before you reply, Kiera also said to me that Lucy needed me, what would she mean by that?'
'I honestly don't know, but I've never seen Lucy like that, are you sure you mean the sarcastic, rude Lucy to be all down and silent.' I nod my head to confirm and he asks me in a serious tone 'what do you think is going on?'
'Well, I know it has something to do with Kiera's dad.'
'How?'
'When Kiera left the office, he slapped her across the face telling her to never ever put him in that situation again-'
'What?!' Mr. Whiteside shouts.
'Sir, I haven't even finished.'
'Sorry, you may continue.'
'He told her that if she ever pulled a stunt like that again he might have to go after Lucy, something happened and he's involved Sir, I swear I’m telling you the truth.'
'You're absolutely sure?'
'Yes.' I say as I nod my head up and down.
'Okay, I'll call Lucy and Kiera into my office, as I've already had Kiera's parents in, I might call in Lucy's, we'll see but first I'll talk to them, just leave it with me.' I take that as my cue to leave and thank him before leaving the room.
It's only then at that moment that it occurs to me that I've grassed up my friends. What have I done?
